Low Quality - Broke on First Use
I needed a great kite line winder to take on my vacation to the beach. I ordered this one based on the great reviews it has received. My first time using it, and after getting my kite out nearly 1000' the plastic case broke and and would bind on the string guide with every rotation of the handle. This required the help of another person to hand pull all the line down while I painfully wound the string back on the reel. Not a fun experience.I requested a replacement from Amazon. Unfortunately, the other brands looked almost identical to this one. I assume that there is a single manufacturer in China producing these with other companies simply re-branding them. I've only had the opportunity to use the new one once. It didn't break the first time I used it like the original one did. However, the low-quality bearings and poor fit of the parts are very noticeable when using it and has me concerned that it won't be long before the new one fails. I'd gladly pay an additional $10-20 for another kite line winder of higher quality and durability.

Great Winder for Smaller Kites
This winder is not bad for the money. The string is very strong. I've flown a 30'' diamond prism with it and also a 9' delta without the line breaking. However, it really is not suitable for larger kites when the forces are greater. It can handle any of the smaller kites. But, anything 9' and greater you run the risk of the handle breaking if you are unwinding at a high rate and stop quickly (that happened to me with my 9' kite). The primary differentiator between this and the higher dollar winders is the materials are not as durable and there is no break. Also, the locking mechanism will get jammed on occasion. All in all, however, the line is very strong and there is plenty of it (I've flown my kites very high and haven't gotten close to the end of the line). The winding is smooth and a great enhancement over traditional more manual winders. I recommend for smaller kites.

Great idea. Failed idea
The idea looks great. Unfortunately, in practice this beautiful piece of ingenuity falls short. It feels great to let it free, but when it comes time to retrieve your kite... it is a real struggle in mid to hard winds. I guess if you fly in calm winds it might work better. It needs a way to anchor it better so you can exert the effort needed to bring you kite down. IT WAS NOT FUN. IT WAS HARD.

Yeah, this is the reel you want
This is a wonderful addition to my kites and kite-flying supplies. The hand grip is easy to grasp and hold onto for extended periods. I like the brake action that will hold the line while I sip on a beverage or otherwise cast a glance at my surroundings. Last week I used this at the beach every day, and, although the breeze was 5-10 mph, I never had more than the first few hundred feet of line out. I look forward to using this again soon.

Broken part and missing screw...
It is a nice looking winder however a screw was missing and the white plastic sleeve holding the line guide ring was broken. With a little wire I was able to make it work....easier then returning it however these issues did merit a reduction in stars.

Crap bearings
I used this in moderate winds with a 5' Delta kite. I attached a 360fly camera to it to capture sunset and moonrise that were happening at the same time.It was only the second time I had used the winder and the bearings froze and shit the bed. It took 2 hours to reel the kite in. Just out of the return window as well.Waste of money. Plus there's no way to flip it over for a left handed person

Bearings seem to give out quickly.
I used this about 5 times and the bearings started sticking and binding. Rewinding and paying out is difficult because of this. I want to get an exchange but not sure how to contact the seller.

This Kite Line device is great, though it can be just a bit tricky to use the first time. Now that I've used it however, I don't ever want to fly a kit without it. Bringing a high flying kite back down is a dream with this thing.
