Ben's Original Tikka Masala Indian Curry Cooking Sauce Jar, Bulk Multipack 6 x 450g

I had originally written a detrimental review of this product as I genuinely thought I had been taken for a ride - I was wrong, very very wrong. The fault lay with an amendment to the product description, and was misleading. However, the customer service at Cooking Marvelous has beyond reproach, and speaks volumes for a company that places enormous value in its reputation and the service it provides to its customers. The erroneous advert has now been replaced, and Cooking Marvelous' representative (Emma) could not have been any more helpful. To the extent that I feel slightly embarrassed at being so critical in the first place - I sincerely hope that future customers read this review and take comfort in the fact that a small family business like Cooking Marvelous really take the customers needs to heart. Thankyou, and apologies for judging you so harshly.

Order for the 1st time but as they was glass jars they wasnt protected from being damaged! Lost out on 4 but was quickly replaced by amazon and ended up with a good sauce for my dinners. Great bargain as one jar is expensive. Good sizes

Nice tasting and goes well with vegetables pork and or chicken. Pairs well with most rice. Very versatile and easy to use.

So I made this for dinner last night and was worried that my husband (not a fan of hot spicy food) wouldn’t like it. I needn’t have worried. This has a mild flavour, and I was surprised at how sweet it tasted. The sauce is creamy and orange-coloured and has a good use-by-date of October 2025. I used it with chicken and rice and it had a quite pleasant flavour, on a par with other brands I’ve tried. When I've got the time, I prefer to whip up my own from scratch, but this is fine for a quick meal when you’re in a hurry. It’s made with tomatoes, fresh cream and yoghurt and is free of artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. Overall, it's handy to keep in the cupboard as a standby meal.

It didn’t occur to me initially, but after purchasing this set of 6x450g of Uncle Ben’s Tikka Masala sauce, that I cannot ever remember trying any of these products, as I usually use two other brands in particular routinely. However, this was a perfect opportunity to try something new and different for dinner. Firstly, being a pack of six, it appears to be a good value pack at £12 (at the time of writing this review), as often, a lot of branded curry sauce products are more expensive. Consulting the label, there is enough contents to serve up to four people, which on using a jar for the first time, I would agree with, as 450g gives lots of volume for a standard household. There are two features with this particular sauce that I really love, the first is that the recipe is formulated using natural ingredients, with no hidden nasties like artificial flavours, colours preservatives and so on. The second is that this recipe is suitable for vegetarians, which is great for me being one myself. The sauce is suitable for use with vegetables, chicken and vegetarian meat alternatives predominantly, but in all honesty, you could pretty much add whatever ingredients you wish. On tasting, well this sauce has one thing in common with all of the other curry sauces on the market (in my opinion), in that it doesn’t taste like tikka masala in the truest sense of what I have come to know it. However, whilst none of the jar sauces really taste like what they claim to be, I buy them based on the taste of the contents in the jar and of course the convenience that they offer in order to create a meal in minutes. In all fairness, I was actually quite impressed with how this tasted. The sauce has a creamy consistency, it has the right amount of thickness, without being too thick or thin, the taste overall is pleasant, with no artificial flavour and importantly, no horrible aftertaste of one or more ingredient. There is also quite a nice subtle spice (not hot) that sits at the back of the sauce to give a really nice sense of depth. I am really glad to have tried these and will look out for them next time I am in the supermarket and having tried this flavour, I am keen to explore whatever other flavours Uncle Ben’s produce. A really nice curry sauce, with lots of contents in the jar for most families and a fair price at £2 per jar. A good product and one that I will add to my sauce cupboard for future shopping trips. I would recommend to others that like me, have not tried this previously.

We have now used all 6 of these and they were very popular with everyone who ate the meals made with them! It is for making curry which we used both chicken and beef as well as one vegetable curry for our vegetarian guests on one occasion. It is quite sweet but I would not say overly so, and that is balanced out by the spices - which are not overpowering, but certainly noticeable. Value wise it is brilliant especially considering a jar will be enough for multiple servings so will do for a whole cooked dinner with any ingredient of your choice for the curry and some rice to go along with it. The ingredients are all whole and minimally processed so there is nothing artificial looking in there which is always a great thing to look out for when buying any food or condiment or in this case curry sauce. No need to keep them in the fridge (unless opened and still some left) which makes them pretty convenient. And of course most importantly, as I touched on above, the sauce tastes great!
