Q: Has anyone used this to clean a vacuum brush roller?

Never. If I clean brush roller, and hair brushes, I used the plastic toothpicks, as it pulls the matter you are trying to pick up in a long streak. For quilting/sewing, I would not use anything but a Havel's seam ripper. The very best...saves lots of work.

Q: I am a clutsy & tend to stab hand w/regular seam rippers. Is blade held on by a screw or slip on like scaples? Worried about blade coming off in use.

It’s slides in and sort of locks over a little piece then screws. It won’t just slip out. You’ll love it. Very very sharp!

Q: Does this seam ripper come with a cap to cover the blade when not in use?

If you look closely at the display picture, there is a safety cap. A word of caution, this is a scalpel. This does amazing work and it was one said if you want to learn to sew, you better learn to rip seams. I work in heavy duty canvas, and this makes cutting out seems sewn in with #69 thread easy.
