Rock-solid Level 2 charger with real power, smart controls, and flawless compatibility
I’ve been running the Emporia Level 2 (NEMA 14-50 / J1772) as my daily home EVSE and it’s been excellent—both in performance and in the “set it and forget it” reliability you actually want from charging equipment. Performance is the headline. On a standard 240V NEMA 14-50 circuit, you should be configuring it to the correct continuous load for your breaker (for most 14-50 installs that’s 40A continuous on a 50A breaker, which is ~9.6 kW). At that setting, it delivers consistent, stable charging without random dropouts or thermal weirdness. If you have a setup that supports it, the platform is capable of higher output (up to 48A / ~11.5 kW when properly supported), which puts it in “fast home charging” territory. Compatibility is perfect across brands. My Chevy charges natively via J1772 with zero fuss. My Tesla Model X Plaid charges reliably using a J1772-to-Tesla adapter—handshake is clean, charging is stable, and it behaves like it should every time. The smart features are actually useful (not gimmicky). The app gives you real visibility into charging: Live power draw (kW), session energy (kWh), and history Scheduling for off-peak / time-of-use rates Adjustable amperage so you can match your circuit safely and avoid nuisance issues Build quality feels like it was designed for daily use: a sturdy plug, a thick cable that doesn’t feel cheap, and a solid connector that clicks in confidently. Excellent value for money!
After a lot of research on YouTube I went ahead and got this one. I use it to charge my Audi e-tron for about 2 months now WITHOUT a single issue. Mine is installed inside my garage but it is rated to sit outside in all weathers. The WIFI capability is also really handy and you can see at a glance how much you have spent just charging your car. (Not that this is anything to do with any charger but approximately 2000 miles cost just less than $100) so its for me anyway, fun to see how much gas I'm not buying and polluting with! Because my unit is plugged in to a suitable wall socket, as opposed to having it hardwired directly into the breaker panel, I'm getting 9.6KW pretty much at all times according to the display in the car. Hardwired, it will go to 11KW but to be honest I don't need anything n greater than what I'm getting now. I was using the Audi supplied charger but it was downrated to charge at 50% of its capacity so having a dedicated Level 2 charger at home just made perfect sense. Plus the cable is 24ft long which means I can charge a vehicle on the driveway from the back wall of the garage, really useful! For the price, and having used it plenty in the last couple of months I can fully recommend it and wonder why you would want or need to spend double the money for the same performance. Check out the review videos online as this Emporia comes out very well. If you have the NEMA 14-50 fitted on your wall already, this unit will plug straight in out of the box and have you charging immediately. The installation of the unit to the wall was straight forward and the instructions where really easy to follow, just be mindful of where you position the unit in relation to the NEMA socket as this cable is a bit shorter than expected. See my attached photo... Overall I think this is a fantastic value from a product with a great reputation...

Quality unit, great ap, easy install
Excellent experience. Deliver next day. Installed 75 minutes and was charging. I did have a "dryer" plug pre-installed. The app was easy and perfect to help me get everything running smoothly and dialed in. I had a question about the load on my circuit and the AI response was immediate and accurate. Note: the charger to power plug cord is thick and not too flexible...I don't think you could even do a 180 with the cord, so check out the plug before you install. My only issue is the hangar for cord and car plug results in the stored plug sticking out from wall over 12 inches.

Some initial problems but working great
It can be hard wired but it was not designed for this. As another reviewer stated it has to be wired with a flexible conduit as the screws to attach the front cover insert from the rear. Very difficult to get at. Also there is very little room to work with stiff #6 AWG wire to get it into the terminals. I had to get a Baomain crimper and connectors as I was unable to get the bare wires into the clamps. Hardwiring does allow you to go to 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker but the increase from 40 amps using the plug is probably not worth the effort. If you're a DIYer who has done any wiring you can do this alone. Hard wired I do get the full 11.5 KW so charging is quick. The first time I used it, it worked fine. The second time it stopped charging after an hour. I unplugged it then reconnected it and it finished the charge. The third time it wouldn't charge at all. I called their tech support and the tech connected to it over the internet. His first effort was to upgrade the firmware, which took less than a minute. It's worked perfectly since. The app works great. Easy to set up and configure. Very versatile as to monitoring charging. You can enter your rate per kWh and it will tell you the cost for all your electricity used. I live in an area with a very low off peak rate (5.15¢/ kWh) so it costs me 1.5¢/mile to operate my Ioniq 6. Very happy with this unit and really appreciate the lower price compared to other brands.

Back in 2016, I got a Tesla Model S P90DL. Unfortunately, the location of my garage, relative to my electrical panel, made installing a charger impractical. Instead, I put a NEMA 14-50 outside, and ran a 50' RV power extension cord to my porte-cocher. Oh, and I've been using my mobile charger as my only charger since day 1. When I moved to a new house, I put a NEMA 14-50 in the garage, and kept the same basic arrangement. About the time a Model Y was added to the household, it seemed like a good idea to go for a more permanent solution. With a Rivian on order, I definitely didn't want a Tesla-specific charger. Really, just about all of the chargers are SAE J1772 anyway, so I did some research on the one that would be best for me. There appear to be two tiers of chargers, where the first is relatively "dumb", and the other is "smart"er. Dumb chargers, in this context, set the charging current limit to the car, and negotiate the closing of contactors within the charger. These will work fine with any EV. Smarter chargers generally communicate via wifi, measure energy that's passed through the charger, and usually have some ability to set schedules or rules for charging. I settled on the Emporia Energy Smart Level 2 EV Charger. My list of requirements was pretty short. First, the charger needed to be outdoor-capable. Second, I wanted the charger to be hardwired. Third, I wanted app monitoring/control, since I'd be using one charger for 2 or 3 vehicles. Fourth, I wanted some scheduling features - I'm not going to use them now, but definitely will once I have my solar/battery setup. OUTDOOR INSTALLATION The Emporia fulfills my requirements. It's listed as outdoor-capable, but the capability is as a result of a gasket that separates the case shell from the lid, and weather-proof caps on the cables that exit the case shell. More on that in a minute. If you don't put a hole in the housing, the case will remain sealed, as the unit mounts to the wall with a bracket that the case mounts to. HARDWIRING The unit does allow hardwiring. Once you're in the shell, you can remove the AC supply cable. Interestingly, you just unhook 3 wires - this is interesting because a 14-50 is typically a 4-conductor hookup. If you know this going in, you can save some money buying 3-conductor 6ga wire, which is significantly cheaper than 4-conductor 6ga. While you don't ABSOLUTELY NEED to do this, it's a good idea to use ferrules and a ferrule crimper to prep your terminal block connections. I drilled through the back of the housing to pull the 6ga. From a weatherproofing perspective, you need to take care of the hole in the back and seal the left-side cap. SMART FEATURES So, my guess is that most of you have some wifi coverage wherever it is that you park your car. I mean, you get your car's OTA updates, right? Well, if you DON'T have wifi coverage, the Emporia will act as a regular EV charger. If you do, you will perform some soft setup, consisting of getting the Android or iOS Emporia app. Your device will find the charger's bluetooth radio. It'll ask you to verify that the pairing code has a fragment of the charger's MAC address. You'll have to create an Emporia account to access the charger via the app, which shows you the current status and the historical charging information. The app also lets you link your EVs. I forget what 3rd-party IaaS it uses, but I was able to link my Teslas to my Emporia account (it just required OAuth during the setup). I was able to set the charge limit to 48A, which the Model Y can use. My Model S has no problem negotiating a 40A limit. One thing that I thought was interesting was that the Model Y tapers the current as you approach the charge limit - I've not seen my Model S ever do that, but I guess it's better for the battery. At $450, my Emporia charger was certainly way less expensive than some of the other models I was considering. Considering how basic these devices are from a BOM and design standpoint, $450 feels like a lot, but the price is the price. Compared to the other "smart" chargers, I do feel like the Emporia is a relative bargain. If you're charging Teslas, you'll need a SAE J1772 adapter (but you probably got one with your mobile charger). With the adapter, you'll probably want to get a weatherproofing option of some sort. I adapted a silicone cap for the task, and it works great. Recommended

Excellent at-home charger for 2019 Leaf with J1772
I have a 2019 Nissan Leaf, and anyone who has one of those knows that there is a tiny little flaw with the fast-charger that cars go BOOM, so we are no longer allowed to fast-charge; however, we also have the J1772 port, so we use that overnight. The original Nissan one quit working a few weeks ago [which is actually not too bad coming in at over six years]. This replacement came quickly and was easy to set up. It can be used without the app and WiFi, but those add the ability to set the timer, get reports, etc. I like the ones that tell me how much electricity I used and the approximate cost, based on the times I charge and local rates. It comes with a wall mount holder for the charging "wand" itself, similar to how the wands are docked on the chargers around town. My darling spouse has not quite yet followed through on putting this on the wall, but I'm sure he will soon. [Spoiler alert: He will not.] In the meantime, I am using the rubber cap from my Nissan unit, which I just cut off with scissors, to reduce dust and dog hair from getting into the wand.

Works great
Charges at the full 40 amps with a 50 amp plug. (20% headroom for safety). Cord is very long and is able to reach even in you don't park very close. The app is very easy to use and convenient, it even has a breakdown of how much I spend each day on electric. Definitely one of the best chargers out there. The only thing I would change is that I wish the charger had a place to set the plug to protect it from rain and snow without having to put the cover on every time.

No funciona
La caja recibe corriente eléctrica, pero no saca la corriente eléctrica, los arquitectos de la obra en donde lo pusimos no lo abrieron inmediatamente, sino cuando terminaron la obra (después de 45 días) y ya no hay opción de devolución, está pésimo ya que es un artículo muy costoso y ya lo revisaron eléctricos y es una falla de fábrica.

Worked flawlessly and reliably for over 2 years
When purchasing our EV we did fairly extensive reviewing of home level 2 chargers. The Emporia fit the bill for us given the options of connections and installation for either 40 or 48 amp and provides charging speed of 9-9.5 kwh so takes 4-5 hrs to charge approx for us to 80%, the reviews at the time, and reasonably priced for what you get. It has not disappointed and worked well from the first charge and still going strong reliably. The App is not fancy but adequate and gives the settings options that are needed and provides data and info that is practical No regrets with our purchase and would recommend to others.

Superbe borne électrique.
Wow pour le prix vous ne trouverez rien de meilleur. Wattage ajustable, application facile à comprendre et à programmer. Si vous la programmer pour charger la nuit à petit wattage, vous ferez de grosses économies. Charge complète pour une Ioniq 5 autour de 4 dollars. Je vous la recommande.

At $600CDN for a 48 volt ev charger, and the reviews on YouTube that were quite good!
What I dislike are the 8 screws that are installed on the back side over the face plate. At a $105 an hour the electrician took 15 minutes to install all 8 screws... I personally think this is a design flaw. It should have been two top clips and one or two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Simple and easy to install! The installation went well... The overall price and quality are a good valve . Only time will tell if it was a good buy .IF it breaks I have to ,take it apart and send it to the company, and wait for them to repair ev charger.

Worked Perfectly
Worked Perfectly, installed by certified electrician. After installation Need to go to Emporio Website on the internet and REGISTER your Emporio charger Then Log into YOUR Emporio charger at home using WFi and select your Circuit Breaker value ( 50 amps for me) at home as electrician installed. Then you will get the higher charging amount ( 9kw for me) instead of the default value ( which was 7kw).
