Difficulty level guideline
Our family now owns 5 of these puzzles. 3 are number 1 level difficulty and 2 are level 2. We all enjoy them , though I havent been able to fully crack the level 2 puzzles - which is to say both assembly and disassembly without any clues or aid. I am a fairly intelligent person and I like puzzles and challenges but I wouldnt claim to be particularly good at them. We also have another adult and a 12 and 6 year old children. The other adult in our household has been able to solve all of them and the kids can both solve all three level one puzzles - the younger sometimes needs assistance. I thought it might be helpful to consider something I've realized about the difficulty levels on these, though I'm not sure it holds true at the higher levels. The number only kind of references the DEGREE of difficulty, in that level 1 requires solving one really difficult element before the puzzle falls into place. Level 2 seems to require 2 difficult elements to over come during the solving process, hence taking longer and creating the opportunity to go awry even after getting one of the elements right without necessarily realizing you've hit that first step and potentially undoing it - if that makes sense. Any way, thought it might be helpful if any one buying a level 1 expects it to be easy in any way except perhaps in relation to how long it may take you to solve it compared with other levels. At any rate these are high quality, feel great and substantial in hand and we enjoy collecting them.

Quality gift
I have 2 nephews so I bought 2 different versions of the Level 1 puzzles by this company. My nephews are 11 and 8. As soon as they opened these, they had them out of the boxes and were trying to figure them out. Mind you, they were in the middle of opening a stack of Christmas gifts, but they still didn't hesitate to rip into them!Everyone wanted in on trying their hand with them. The ages ranged from 72 year old grandparents, 40ish aunts and uncles, 20ish cousins, down to the actual ages of the gift recipients. In other words, they seem to be a crowd pleaser regardless of the age of the crowd.I wasn't sure about what level to buy when I was looking at the complexity. I didn't want it to be too easy so that it didn't require any effort (less fun) but I also didn't want it to be too hard (discouraging). I probably should have bought level 2 for each of them to start. The trout puzzle took the 8 year old less than 2 minutes to take apart and put back together. The diamond Level 1 was a little more difficult, but still took less than 5 minutes. For some it was more like 8-10 minutes.I highly recommend these puzzles! Not only are they fun, they are also well made. They are a really nice gift that is affordable.

Oddly satisfying to solve
This is a nice little puzzle with a bit of a fidget factor. You definitely do not want to hand it to somebody already solved, otherwise, the solution is obvious. It is certainly not that difficult to figure out either way, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

So good someone stole it off my desk
Was a hit at the office with most people perplexed until you show them. Was such a hit with someone that they stole it off my desk.

The Hanayama Diamond Is A True Gem
This was my introduction to the world of Hanayama, and what a nice piece it is. Absolutely beautiful to the eyes and to the touch. Hanayama's classic challenge with all their puzzles is essentially, "Can you take it apart", and "can you then put it back together?" With this piece, I present to my friends a little differently as to not reveal the trick to quickly. First I show them the assembled diamond. Then I quickly disassemble and challenge them to reassemble it. I hand them the two symmetrical pieces, and that's when the fun starts. Devilishly clever and counter-intuitive. Only one or two of the dozens of folks I've presented it to have managed to reassemble it in any semblance of reasonable time, if at all. Gave out several as holiday gifts and everyone was delighted and thrilled. Simplicity and style at its best.
