I used another brand, no longer available, as a treat for my cats. The other brand was lighter in color and also I could easily break off pieces of the chicken in order give them small pieces. This stuff is much tougher! If that doesn't matter to you then I'm sure it's great, and I don't think that it's a 'defect'..just different.
