Using a centuries-old French crock method, Butter Bay keeps butter soft and spreadable anytime, without refrigeration. A cube of butter fits perfectly inside, and Butter Bay's air-tight water seal maintains butter's fresh flavor for weeks. Just add 1/4 - 1/3 cup cold water to the basin (and change the water every 3 - 4 days) to keep butter soft and spreadable. Each Butter Bay is made using the slip-cast method, finished by hand, and kiln-fired in a factory that was built 114 years ago.

Desert Dwelling Toast Lovers Rejoice!
I live in the HOT Arizona Desert. Even with Air Conditioning you simply cannot leave butter out on the counter....You can now ;)1.Solid Construction2.Very Easy to 'fill' - watch the product video - so easy!3.Saves Money - ( no more wasted 'melt' when the soften setting on your microwave gets a bit picky or you forgot and left it "softening" on the counter too long and have to toss the rancid mess)4.Easy to Clean5. Does Exactly what it says it will do6. Water stays coolSo very glad I finally bit and bought this...my husband loves it too. Usage: Sits on the island where it gets indirect sun exposure from two windows (6 foot and 8 feet away from the windows). Refresh water once every 3 days even though you can go much longer than that. I fill per the instructions, making sure the butter is properly 'seated' around all sides - which for this model is just easy peasy and no utensils required! I do 'scrape' the sides occasionally from the top down during use ..have never had a problem with butter falling out - even when you can see the sides peaking thru - because it's been properly pressed into the dish at the filling stage so it stays at just the right temp to still stick to the sides and thus not fall out. Thus far have never 'refrigerated' the unit when not in use - have not needed to do anything but fill it, refresh the water every so often, and enjoy. The butter is never too soft (re never melting in the dish). The nice large base on the unit means no tipping when turned up for use (like I've read about some butter bells) and it makes for a nice large 'handle' when taking it off the base unit. Very nice for those with carpel, arthritis or other hand issues. This unit is very simply - Great! Butter Bay Cube-Shaped Butter Keeper, Made in USA, Pomegranate

An Excellent Product AND Made In The USA!
I've been using my Butter Bay now for about two weeks and am absolutely thrilled with how it works. When I first discovered the item on Amazon.com I searched the internet for the company's page and was led to thebutterbay.com. The page is packed with lots of information about the company and their product and the customer service is quite good. I sent an email with some questions not addressed by the web site and received a very friendly reply in good time. After I received my Butter Bay from Amazon I went back to the company web site to watch the video demonstrating its use (about 2 1/2 minutes) and was thoroughly impressed that the product really is as simple and mess free to "load" as the video demonstrates! I would surely recommend the Butter Bay to anyone who inquired.A few of the facts that have made me so happy with this product follow:1. The product is produced entirely in the United States.2. It is constructed well and feels substantial in your hand. It doesn't feel fragile.3. It will accommodate a variety of sizes of butter sticks very simply.4. It can be filled as simply and cleanly as indicated on the company's video.5. It is available in a nice selection of colors and at a price that surpasses other similar products. It is also very handsome and not decorated with any motifs.6. It really does work.7. It is very easy to clean and maintain.8. The products footprint is not substantially larger than a stick of butter so it's a great product for those of us with small or tiny kitchens.A few things that I discovered after my email to the company and their reply to me:1. If you're adding salt to the water use about 1/8 t.2. Cool tap water is recommended.

Highly Recommended
This is a very good butter keeper. I used to have a Norpro Butter Keeper Bell Norpro Glazed Stoneware Butter Keeper but it broke. I then bought a Trudeau Butter Boat Trudeau 09607081A Porcelain Butter Boat, White but I didn't like it. It was nice, but the butter was a lot softer (more like just plain room temp) than I experienced with the Norpro Bell. This product is the best. It keeps the butter cooler (like the Norpro). It's a bit firmer than room temp which I like a lot more. As an added plus, the rectangular shape of this makes it much simpler to fill than a butter bell. Go to the Butter Bay website to see how to fill it.And, the dark blue matches my mid-century Dansk tableware. If you like your butter cooler than room temp but not hard from the refrigerator, this is perfect.

more convenient tham round butter bells
I bought a returned dish that had a firing flaw. (which I could care less about) I like that I can just press the western shaped stick of butter right into it without chopping and softening and all the stuffing that goes along with a round shaped butter bell. That said I think my dish shrank more than the average during its firing as the stick of butter is about 1/8 proud when pressed all the way in, so about 2 teaspoons or two pat sized portion of butter sticks up past the rim and if I just put it in the bottom dish it touches the bottom. So not a deal breaker but is clearly a manufacturing detail that should be corrected in future.

The top won't sit correctly on the crock. I would have to balance the top on the bottom and any slight movement near it makes the top shift. That's how precariously it has to be balanced. I am sorry that I have to send it back since I was so excited to get it in the first place. I am asking for a replacement and will do another video review with the second one too. I am so hopeful that the second review will be better because I want one.... but I also want it to work!!!
