When I ordered this adapter so I could use my old 35mm Nikon AF lenses, I wasn't sure if I would like it. After years of DSLRs and AF cameras, this looked like a step backwards. The adapter is well made, and fits both camera and lens snugly. But, as you would expect, the lens operates completely manually. No AF, for sure. But, the AE does work, if you use the Auto ISO, or put it in P mode (on my a6500). The combination of auto shutter speed and Auto ISO make the use of the aperture on the lens what it should be, an artistic choice. And, my old Nikon primes and even zooms are super sharp lenses. But, the one thing I was not sure of was the lack of AF. How can you take a picture without AF, I thought? Well, going back to my Nikon FE2 days, or Pentax Spotmatic days, or even further back to my first instruction on a Crown Graphic 4x5, they were all manual focus. But, the Sony A6500 has two features that make lack of AF a no-brainer. The A6500 will mark focus edges with peaking. That makes the choice of focus again, an artistic choice, and not an algorithm of the camera. A second feature, focus magnifier, allows me to zoom into small areas to check focus. If you are shooting fleeting wildlife or action sports, this will probably not work for you. But, for everything else, it puts you back in the driver's seat. For the price, if you have a Sony or other mirrorless camera and old, but very sharp, fast lenses, give this a try. You may get hooked as I have been.

This adapter allows me an affordable opportunity to use some of my vintage Nikon lenses with my Sony Mirrorless cameras. The adapter mounts and unmounts easily and is a perfect fit while allowing me to use my old Nikon lenses for a more retro video and photo look. Works perfectly and as a bonus gives you an opportunity to practice manual focusing.

It's an inexpensive adapter for manual focus lenses made to fit Nikon mount and it does what it's supposed to. It fits my Sony e mount well. My cons are that since it's another hunk of metal of your camera it does add a bit of weight but it's relatively solid. My only con is the pushing the button to release the lens doesn't release it as easily as I would like. I had to really push on it to get the lens to release. Well I guess less chance of the button being released by accident. The release button or leaver felt as if you applied a bit too much pressure you could bend it but I guess it's okay. I worked fine with the lens I purchased. Satisfied with this adapter.

I bought this adapter to put older Nikon F-mount lenses back into use on my Sony mirrorless camera, mainly for photography and video work where I want a less clinical look. The adapter locks securely onto both the camera and lens, with no noticeable wobble or looseness during use. Mounting and removing lenses feels straightforward, and the all-metal build has held up well in my kit. This is a fully manual adapter, so autofocus and electronic aperture control are unavailable. You need a lens with its own aperture ring if you want normal aperture control, since lenses without one stop down to their smallest setting. The camera still meters through the lens, and aperture-priority or manual exposure works well. Manual focus has not been a problem for my slower-paced shots. Sony focus peaking and magnification make it easy to confirm sharp focus, especially with Nikon primes and older Tamron zooms. I would not choose this setup for fast action, wildlife, or unpredictable subjects, but it works well for portraits, landscapes, product shots, and controlled video work. For the price, this is an easy way to give good older Nikon lenses a second life on a Sony E-mount body. It has helped me get more use from glass I already owned while adding a more hands-on shooting experience.

Only 3 stars ... reason: Although of good quality, be aware that the purchased item is obviously NOT the "Cowboy Studio" adapter as pictured and written. Disappointed here but will keep the one I got ... it's well made and no reason yet found to reject it. It fits well on the lens, but note that the release "button" must be pushed back away from the lens to release the securing bolt. Tip ... observe the action before attaching the adapter. The price is very good, so, all in all a good purchase, with sour aftertaste! Seller and Amazon should be more careful! Edit: Upgraded to 4 stars! Update after testing: The adapter I received goes on and off the NEX 6 like silk. The focus has to be backed off infinity setting, just a little, to get sharp infinity. With the wonderful manual focus assistance on this camera that is no problem. Well worth 5 stars but for my complaint of false description! So ... later .. upgraded to 5 stars after more experience as it is such an excellent product!

I bought this adapter to use some of my F ai ais lenses, unfortunately the button on adapter can stuck the rotation of aperture ring of lenses, aperture cannot go below 5.6, not suitable for them. The older non-ai lens works fine

Works well up to a point. Definitely not German engineering yet very decently built. The Sony side bayonet is buttery smooth, the Nikkor side much coarser and tighter. You have to be very careful when removing the lens from the adapter, the forces required may cause equipment damage. I recommend holding tightly the adapter, not the camera. Once the lens is on the camera, the setup is rock solid, there is absolutely no play and that is remarkable for such a cheap device. Now, the not so good: 1- I believe that the focal length extension is not all that precise. I noticed that with all my old Nikkor lenses the "Infinity" point was noticeably shifted. That may not be that important if you focus through the camera viewfinder, but you cannot rely on the distance scales and even less so on the depth of field markings, so if you are used to "pre-focus" you lens, you may have a tough time with it (I did! At first I just could not figure out why a large percentage of my shots were too soft). I also noticed that when set on infinity, the lenses actually focused way past infinity and the entire field of view rendered out of focus (even at small apertures where the depth of field should have compensated considerably). At closer distances the shift became smaller, and in close focusing there seems the actual focus point comes a lot closer to the markings on the lens. I do not have sufficient knowledge of optical engineering to explain. 2- I wish this adapter had a ring or lever to momentarily open the lens fully. It would be a great help for critical focus. I have seen other adapters that indeed have such feature, I would seriously consider one of those. One more point I would like to make: If you are buying this device in order to take advantage of the greater light gathering power of your older lenses, my advice is "FORGET IT"; while you may gain one or two f stops in light gathering power as compared to prime Sony lens, you will also lose about 3 f stops in stabilization !!! Not a very good deal, plus manual focus??!! Unless you have some spectacular old lens like one of those legendary Micro Nikkors, just Get yourself a modern lens and enjoy...

I bought this to use my full range of Nikkor lenses (some from the 1970s, some bought last year) with a new Nex 5. After trying all but one, they work perfectly. This adapter isn't the most robust you can buy (those get very expensive), but if you aren't taking it into high mechanical stress situations and you are careful to baby it a bit it should be great. The price is more than right. The locking of the adapter on both lens and camera is very tight out of the box. While this may loosen a little bit over time, who knows, but it's really tight to start. This is fabulous for holding the lens securely and tightly, but means quite a bit of rotational force can be required during the last part of seating and the first part of removing the lens from the adapter. I see this as a good thing, a small price to pay for a very solid connection. There is less force required to remove the adapter from the Nex 5 body. So the first thing I tried was my dark paper bag test, using my 85mm f1.8 Nikkor to shoot some newspaper copy at the bottom of the bag in available darkness. The photo was much more "lit" than what my eye could see, so the Nex passed wonderfully. Next I want to mount the camera onto my last Nikkor to try, a 300-600mm zoom. The lens mounts to the tripod, and the camera will hang off of it. The crop factor should make that equivalent to a 450-900mm 35mm-format lens.

I read that the build quality for this product is a bit hit and miss. I decided to buy one anyway as I wanted to try my Nikon prime lenses on my new Sony nex 7. The one I got from Amazon is very nicely made. It fits nice and snug to the nex 7 and the Nikon lenses lock firmly into place with no play or movement. I have to say, my Nikon lenses really bring the nex7 images to life. The focus peaking works so well it is easy and quick to manual focus. I was using my 50mm f1.4 wide open and getting crisp, dreamy shallow depth of field images. Shooting around f5.6 to f16 I get amazing depth and sharpness right across the frame. I use lenses from 24mm up to 85mm. These adapters are great fun, and if you enjoy total manual control, there are thousands of lenses out there from Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus, Leica etc. Go for it! PS. Now I've tried a cheap adapter I don't mind purchasing one of the more expensive brands.

Nice firm fit. no sloppiness. Good chrome facing making this a very good accessory for the NEX / Nikon enthusiast.

The locking pin is a little fiddly but the adapter fits securely and does the job. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Cowboy Studios again.
