So Sweet
I have to say I really enjoyed this book and how it continued the stories of the characters from Book 1. I love book series that could also be standalone.Well what can I say Sophie is one strong lady and I was so engrossed reading as she navigated the path of a young widow with a young child. I loved the supportive characters we come across and there truly are some characters. Double single parent romance was too cute and the chemistry between Dr Drew Reed and Sophie Windell-Miller and obviously had to have a close proximity side. This was really endearing and quite and honest portrayal of each of their stories.I was honestly rooting for Drew and Sophie from the beginning but with grieving a fallen soldier husband, each raising a young girl and a secret Drew holds but cannot tell, is it really going to work? The older brother dynamics made me chuckle and there were definitely some of my favourite scenes. I truly could not stand Bradley’s character he irked me so much. I think there were some more that could have been worked in there however.I will have to warn of a trigger warning include death and SA. Mostly the book is filled with humour, love, of course so loss and a whole lot of chaos.

3.5 ⭐️
This book could have been a 5⭐️ if the author had added intimacy scenes. She spent more than half the book talking about the “explosive attraction” the main characters have but they only kiss three times or so. Even if she had added closed door scenes it would have been more believable. A 36 year old and a 30 year old widow not having sex is just bizarre if they are so attracted to each other.

A heart felt story with likeable characters ❤
Wow. This book was an emotional read, the beginning had tears streaming down my face, but after that my heart felt happy. This story was sweet, the duo were such loving and deserving people and you couldn't help but love them as individuals and as a couple. A pair who were truly meant to be.Drew is the perfect gentleman, a doting father, a successful doctor and a considerate and compassionate partner - Sophie is a lucky girl!Sophie was such a strong and sweet woman, a single mum who had gone through such turmoil but managed to remain such a positive and gentle person.Penny and Samanatha were so sweet, their relationship and the family dynamic really built this book.My heart hurt for Emily, I hope she gets her own story and HEA.Different from my usual reads but I enjoyed the story and like how I feel having read it. I recommend this book it was a heartfelt story with likeable and realistic characters.I received a ARC in return for an honest review.

Favourite Book in This Series
5⭐️Honestly I loved this I’m not gonna hold back with my rating. The premise had me sold from the beginning and it delivered. After Sophie’s husband died in action, having to raise their daughter alone, 3 years later she decides its time to move on with her life and she decides to babysit for and live in the basement of Drew’s house. Drew knows Sophie’s off limits for multiple reasons but he’s also got a secret he’s been keeping for 7 years which could affect a lot. This was a perfect romcom, the kind that makes you love love. I loved both Drew and Sophie. My heart went out to Sophie for everything she went through. How sweet were Sam and Penny? This was everything it needed to be.Content: kissing only + mild language

A Heartfelt Single Parent Romance
A (double) single parent romance mixed with a fantastic dose of close proximity and forbidden tension. I adored this heartfelt romance between Drew and Sophie.Widowed, single mom Sophie is thankful for the help her parents have provided, but she's ready to live independently with her daughter. Accepting an offer to rent the basement apartment from single dad and family friend Dr. Drew Reed, I loved seeing their relationship evolve through simple, domestic moments. There's something about kitchen scenes, am I right? Swoon! The moments discussing grief really wrenched my heart. But throughout all the darkness, Sophie had such a brightness about her, doing everything she can to find happiness for herself and daughter. Drew was so patient, calm, and understanding, allowing Sophie to move their relationship at a pace comfortable for her. And the kids! It truly captured the innocence of children and their hilarious honesty. There is a secret regarding Drew that is carried throughout the story, and although I predicted it immediately, I really enjoyed seeing it come to light. This romance was adorable!

An Amazing Read!!!
Oh my word! I ADORED this book! House Mate was my first read from Leah Brunner, but it most definitely will not be my last! This story completely sucked me in on page one! I finished it in less than 24 hours, I couldn’t stop turning pages, and I was so engrossed in the story that I actually forgot I was reading as the story played out like a movie in my mind’s eye!Sophie is such an awesome character, I liked her immediately and so admired her kind heart and her incredible strength and resilience. And Drew, oh my goodness I am head over heels in love with him! Yes, he’s incredibly good looking, but what I loved even more was his tenderness, his selfless and loving heart, and his overall goodness! There simply aren’t words to describe what an incredible man he is! Dr. Drew Reed is totally a new book boyfriend of mine!I seriously loved this book so much, and it definitely has a spot on my favorite reads of 2022 list!Thank you Bookstagram community for introducing me to Leah Brunner’s books!A few of my favorite quotes!“My heart squeezes at the sight of them. There is nothing as sexy as a big, solid man cuddling a small child. It can’t be beat. It’s probably scientifically proven.”“There are so many sparks flying between us lately, we could use them to power our own defibrillator. I roll my eyes at myself. Spending this much time with Drew has me thinking in medical euphemisms.”“I think I will literally die if I can’t freely embrace her. Okay, as a doctor, I can admit I won’t die, literally. But my soul will die a slow and painful death.”“We were barely even friends at first, just seeing each other in the mundane everyday life. And somewhere amidst the mundane, things began seeming not mundane at all. Every glance, every brush of the hands, every time he helped Samantha with something. I began to fall for him.”

Fun read with a few bumps
I really enjoyed this story! It's well written, immediately engaging & entertaining.I was a little leery of the warnings about a character in the book who's raped, as I'm under a lot of stress right now & need to keep things light, but it's past tense & only discussed in a minimal, matter-of-fact wayA few annoyances that reduced my enjoyment & therefore rating***SPOILERS ****I was puzzled by Diane's easy acceptance, as it was definitely out of character from the view we're given of her at the beginning of the story, & we never get an explanation*I had a hard time believing Sophie would have decided that she had a right to know something that she should have immediately recognized involved more than Drew. The idea that she couldn't trust him was an unreasonable leap, & the whole thing seemed out of character for her. Felt too contrived.*The idea that Sophie couldn't wait to talk to Drew & thought she'd be able to find him was also not believable, but provided a more Hallmarky denouement, I guess?***END SPOILERS***So not perfect, but nevertheless still very good! I like the Windells, & I'll definitely be checking out the other books in the series!*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic*Language: a handful of the common swears
