The first adventure is a choose-your-own-adventure style booklet that walks you through character creation, basic rules and roles, exploring, combat, and storytelling. Plus, you get pre-made character sheets, dice, and basic rules to launch into another 3 adventures with friends. Absolutely great for anyone regardless of experience. Also, well worth the value - similar sets can cost upwards of $50-60. Review: One of the best RPG starter sets I’ve ever seen. - If you are even remotely interested in RPGs and/or the Cthulhu mythology and setting, consider picking this up. It comes with everything you need to not only play the game, but LEARN it in an interactive way. One of the three books is dedicated to teaching you how to play the game by actually having you play a really fun (and pretty long!) solo adventure. It works kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, but teaches you how the character sheet and stats work, and how to use them to play the game, as well as introduces you to the setting and has a fun story! After that, there is a set of the basic rules for the game, and three MORE adventures to play with a group of your friends. It includes dice, maps, player handouts and aids too. A great way to start playing a great RPG!

Great way to jump into playing this creepy TTRPG
This is the most well thought out starter kit for any TTRPG I have played; I was really astonished with the value when unpacking it. It comes with 3 books, as well as pre-preprinted handouts and character sheets. The first book is a really fun solo adventure for the Keeper (DM) or player to play on their own with either a premade character or a custom character. I had a blast playing through it as the Keeper and learning the game mechanics. The second book is a simplified rules manual, it is really straight forward and easy to read and understand. The third book is a collection of 3 one-shot campaigns, most short enough to play in one or two sessions. I am playing as a Keeper with only one player, and it is really easy to run all these one-shots with only one Keeper and one player, or one player and a DMNPC. I really enjoyed that there are separately printed handouts included to give my player, things like maps, notes and clues etc.

A Great Intro to the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG
A great way to get familiar with the lore and mechanics of the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG. The included solo-play book, "Alone Against the Flames," does a good job of teaching you the basics in a choose-your-own-adventure format. If you're thinking about getting started with Call of Cthulhu, this set is for you.

Great starter for a brand new TTRPG player
The Call of Cthulhu Starter Set is basically a reprint of the previous version, which itself contained a lot of material from previous scattered Call of Cthulhu products. If you're veteran of the game, this may not be anything you really need. As an introduction to Call of Cthulhu or TTRPGs in general, this product is nearly perfect. Taken in order, the solo adventure book is a gentle point of entry to the system (including abbreviated character creation rules) and a good peek at how running a game might feel. The rulebook is complete enough to use as a quick reference but simplified for beginners. The third book, containing three adventure scenarios, features a progression from a 1-player/GM story to a full-party/GM setup.

High quality, slightly complex, but so much fun!
First off I have to say that EVERYTHING in this set is super high quality for a starter set, right down to it coming with premade characters. The booklets are of a higher standard than I expected, the box is wonderfully solid, the art on everything is beautiful, and the dice are solid. Nothing in this set is done without a purpose, including the off colour d10 which is off colour so that you can roll with advantage or disadvantage. I've been playing D&D for years so getting into Call of Cthulhu was much easier for me, but I could hand this to someone who'd never played Tabletop RPG's and they could get the hang of it. a few criticisms; The language used in this is a bit advanced, but I suppose that is to be expected with eldritch horror. The handouts and character sheets are clingy and difficult to pull away from one another. The layout of the adventures are a bit difficult for a new Story Keeper if they've never been a game master before (advising roleplay with sometimes little to no direction) though at times the opposite is true, wherein it holds the hand of new game masters really well. Finally the biggest issue is the difficulty curve it has for understanding the mechanics in general (to an extent), the books often do a poor job of explaining how certain actions are meant to play out, Primarily combat. regardless of these nitpicks this is an INCREDIBLY worthwhile purchase for anyone interested in Call of Cthulhu, ESPECIALLY if they aren't sure they'll like the game enough to warrant the slightly high cost of the main rulebook and player's handbook for 7th Edition.

Great TTRPG for mystery fans.
This is a great way to start with what will be a very interesting TTRPG. My wife is a mystery nut... so thia should be fun to play with her and either our kids or her friends. Also this has a one person one shot to help you learn the game better. Can't wait!

excellent ttrpg starter set with plenty to do
This starter set is fantastic, it has enough to get you started with solo and multiple party adventures, plus the provided rules work for the other solo books too. Honestly one of the best ttrpg starter sets out there for what all is in it

All you really need to play Cthulhu! Great value

Best entry into the game. Better than other RPGs on the market. Especially the solo game let’s the keeper experience the game and learn the rules quickly. Why are other RPGs not using this way of teaching rules?

This box set is an excellent starter for anybody wanting to try out call of Cthulhu. The game is a classic eldritch horror and investigation role playing game based on the Cthulhu myths of H. P. Lovecraft. It contains a basic rule set, a solo adventure in which you can create your first ‘investigator’ character and learn the rules by playing a scenario and a book of introductory adventures for a games master (‘Keeper of arcane secrets’) to run with a group. It includes character sheets with details of some pre-set starter characters and some blank character sheets as well as a set of dice. It also has some handouts of documents which players might discover during their investigations. The set contains three booklets, which are attractively produced. The game itself was adapted from Runequest, one of the original role playing games invented shortly after the creation of Dungeons and Dragons. In addition to the usual role playing mechanics a unique feature of the game is the player’s ‘sanity’ score. Sanity is reduced by discovering or encountering horrific beings and events and as it reduces the character can be incapacitated by delusions or hallucinations until being driven completely insane (although there is some hope of recovery by psychiatric treatment or being admitted to an asylum)! The game can be set at any time but the usual setting is in the early twentieth century (think Indiana Jones, Agatha Christie and the works of Lovecraft, himself) Overall, this is a very well thought out and nicely produced introduction to a classic role-playing game. Even if you have never played a role playing game before, this is definitely worth trying out.

The story playthrough is very smooth. The book talks about percentile dice where one has 00, but none do. That was wierd. Otherwise Lowecraftian TTRPG
