Filter 0.1 micron good enough to trap even cryptosporidium
First let me preface this review by saying I am a licensed water treatment professional- I treat drinking water for a living. I use these bottles on backpacking trips or when traveling to areas where sanitation may be questionable. This filter is adequate to remove almost any waterborne pathogen and will also remove a lot of contaminants. I feel comfortable using it for surface water one typically encounters while backpacking in the northeastern US. The addition of the charcoal filter is useful for taste as well. This filter will remove things like cryptosporidium that disinfectants like chlorine aren’t effective against. One interesting thing I learned: using this bottle on an airplane will result in water spraying out the mouthpiece. I learned the hard way so you don’t have to! So, if you plan to use it for travel just be aware that cabin pressure will push the water up and you will most likely get wet.

Very handy for hiking and backpacking.
Love the concept, but I haven't used it yet.

My new favorite bottle
I purchased this bottle for a 3-week trip to India. My goal was to not use a bunch of plastic bottles and not get sick drinking water that my body wasn't used to. It was easy to refill and definitely easy to use. The carabiner made it easy to attach tp my pack or purse. Water always tasted good and ultimately, I didn't get sick. I will definitely be using this more frequently in the future for camping and other travels. Definitely recommend.

No ill effects
I bought this for a trip to India. I drank tap water from it throughout India, Kathmandu and Pokhora, in Nepal, and Kashmir. I only drank bottled water when it was provided by a hotel, guest house, or airline. Needless to say this was very convenient. Nothing to it. Take out the filter, fill with water to the line, put the cap and filter back in place, drinking water. The real negative for me was trying to use it in airplanes. I guess due to pressure changes, when you open the drinking tube on a plane, water comes out what seems to be the vent hole, and gives you a lap bath. That happened to me twice, and I watched a couple with a larger LifeStraw bottle wet their whole tray area and laps another time. So don't expect to use this happily for air travel. I think if you remember to loosen the whole cap briefly before opening the straw, you can use it on a plane and avoid the bath. Otherwise, bottle is easy to use and really handy. I suffered no negative consequences from daily consumption of water I would not otherwise have drunk.

Drinking more water thanks to this bottle
I can't stand bad tasting water, so I will often go without, or drink a less healthy alternative. Having this filter bottle, means I can fill up anywhere and it still tastes good, so I drink more water. I also like the carabiner as I can just hook it to my bag or belt loop and have my hands free for other tasks.

Worked as expected. This one also filters parasite and microorganism along with chemicals
Worked as expected. This one also filters parasite and microorganism along with chemicals. Brita does not filter microorganism. Adds little weight to back pack though. But it serves the purpose well during long hiking trip.

African Holiday
The water across different parts of Africa is questionable. I used this life straw bottle whenever bottled water was not provided. Follow the instructions to get the straw working. The first few sips are a bit tough. After that it’s just like a straw.

Gave as a gift
It was given as a gift to someone who travels in Latin and South America regularly. It takes up some space but she claims it will be worth it if clean water becomes an issue for her.

Leaking after a few weeks
Very bad design as you can see water bubbling out when upright! It's been leaking like this for a few days now. Edit: now 1 star. Constantly leaking. For £50 this product is an absolute con.
