This outsole is hard-wearing, with good abrasion and slip resistance and is stitched and cemented to the base of the upper. Combine style and comfort in this stylish evolution, the Dr. Martens Floyd Brogue Shoe. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Much narrower than my other Dr. Martens
I have several pairs of Dr. Martens that fit me well, but I had to return these because they were too narrow. The length was good, so I couldn't have gone up a size. The suede upper on these didn't seem like it would stretch enough to be comfortable. I exchanged these for a pair of Dr. Martens Rohan oxfords (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BTJTTFI/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1) that fit me very well.

COMFORTABLE SHOES
Good looking shoe and incredibly comfortable. After wearing them the first day for over 14 hours, I got home and took them off expecting that sense of relief when you take your shoes off, but there was not much difference. My feet felt great all day.I would highly recommend these shoes.

Love me some Docs!!!
Awesome, Awesome and Awesome. Fit great and look great and very comfortable. Very quiet as well with no squeaking on concrete floors all day. Last pair lasted 6 years.

No break period. Great casual look with jeans and chinos. This is my first docs so can't compare with previous experience but except excellent appearance it has great cushioned outsoles. Recommended buy.

The price was great.The shoe fits well although I agree that they areslightly narrower than the regular Doc's I buy.But all in all I like them a lot.No worries at all.

comfort out of the box
This is my 2nd pair of this style. Worn docs for over 30 years and these are the most comfortable of all of them. Wish they were made in the USA versue China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my first experience of Dr Marten Shoes and its the best pair of shoes I have managed to purchase in recent times. I can quite see why they are popular with Postmen and Policemen alike.
