Adulthood for Beginners: All the Life Secrets Nobody Bothered to Tell You

I wasn’t sure how my 18 year old brother would respond to this but it was a hit! He’s leaving to move to another state in a few days and I thought this seemed like just the book he needed. He actually started reading through it as soon as he opened it and I had to remind him that he had another gift to open too! It seems to be blunt with a sense of humor. It does have some profanity but it is an “adult” book. Most of what I skimmed through seemed to be common sense at the ripe age of 27, but seemed at least semi helpful for someone learning to adult.

A good book, like many reviewers said, it would have been nice to have this when I was a teenager entering adulthood, but I was happy to gift this to my younger brother for his high school graduation. He seems to have enjoyed it so far. It's a good book for good people who want to walk this world being a good person to themselves and others.

Loved 95% of the book for my son and daughter. Good advice in a funny presentation on having a roommate, working, being a good adult, drinking responsibly, being a nice person to date, etc. from someone who has recently been there (i.e. not a parent) It covered such a great range of topics in short 1-2 page blips that hold your attention because they are humorous. I bought it for my 20 year old son to read before launching on his own. My 17 year old daughter picked it up and read in a night. (Only part that I didn't like were the comment on casual sex being ok if you both are in agreement.)

This book has lots of good advice for older teens and 20-somethings. It can even serve as a nice refresher for an "adult." The advice in the book covers a wide variety of topics, and although some of the advice may seem common sense to older adults, it's stuff lots of young people haven't even stopped to consider. Plus, Boyle includes plenty of wit and humor!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is chock-full of good tidbits about life and acting like a grown-up. While I may not have agreed with everything he said (who truly believes that Butterfingers are the best candy bar?!), I loved how detailed he got about elements like how to write a bangin' cover letter and how empathy really does make for a better life. Oh, and the language is super-NSFW. Which, to me, makes it better.

I knew Andy Boyle in college, and I never thought I'd ever be taking advice from him. However, this book is truly hilarious AND helpful. Andy Boyle's writing is conversational and friendly, and he approaches the subject matter in a highly accessible way. I recommend this book for the recent college graduate.

use of foul language to sound more in synch with the target audience was mostly unnecessary

Bought this for my son, but I started reading it and ended up reading the whole book myself. Very funny, and informative too. A great read for any young adult and some older ones as well. Teaches some important life lessons in a very amusing way.
