Starter Motor Replacement For Kohler Courage Engines 20HP 23HP 25HP 27HP

I have a 2008 or 2009 Troy-Bilt XP Mustang 50" zero turn mower with a Kohler Courage 25HP engine. A few days ago the starter froze while engaged in the flywheel. After removing it, it looked like the armature was bent, so my fingers were crossed it was just an issue with the starter. I frequently buy OEM parts from Jacks Small Engines for my lawn equipment, but with this mower being about 16 years old, there's no way I'm speculating on a $259 Kohler starter when I can get this one for about $50. Out of the box, the only difference between this one and the original is the outside metal case. The Kohler was 'spliced', whereas this one was one continuously rolled piece with no joint, if there is a weld, you can't see it. It bolted right in and low and behold- it cranked right up. It sounds much better and smother than the old one. Of note: this is a ten gear sprocket, same as original. Now, will it last as long as the OEM starter? If this it does, my heirs will have to update this review. But if this mower lasts five more years, I'd be amazed, because I have 2 acres and a TON of 60 year old pine roots everywhere, it's a rough ride! I just replaced the PTO switch last month, all the pulleys have been replaced, all bought right here on Amazon for a fraction of the price of OEM. The picture attached is the actual Kohler motor I have. And it's been flawless!

Fit like oem, no issues

When I received the product it had some small indents on the black casing. It appears that someone prior was tapping the outside with some type of tool to get it to start. I installed the starter and it did not turn at all. I placed a battery jumper cable on the starter directly and it did not turn over. It sparked but did not turn over.

First one froze up after 4x using, 2nd one works good for now. Good price, but they need to have better quality control.
