Q: anyone fly southwest or american where checked bag limit is 62"...the large bag is 64.5" ...did you have to pay excessive bag fee?

I routinely fly with American (USA only) and the only constraint I have ever been advised of is 50#. The fee for over that is extreme @ US$100 vs $30 (hint: a collapsible duffel bag costs about 20-odd bucks, and can be carried inside the bag... adding a second bag is only 40 bucks on American, for a total of 70 bucks... an overweight bag is 100 bucks, so, saves money if you're going to have "more stuff" on the return.).
