Excellent Entry Level Tape Library.
Excellent entry level Tape Library. This model is a drive-less model. Meaning you get the Library with magazines, power supply and a library controller card only. no tape drives are included. This library supports LTO 3,4,5,6 SCSI, SAS, FC drives. Both Full height and Half Heigt drives are supported. If you use half height drive, then you can install 2 in this library. You will also need some software downloadable from IBM dot com website. I am unable to post links here but search for LTFS Library edition software and for LTFS storage manager. the latter is only available for linux. Does not work under windows. For now I am using the LTFS single drive edition software for windows and using the library web interface to move the cartridges manually until I brush up on my linux skills. The library is also very quiet when idle. You can hear the robotic arm moving around when you power on the library or when you move the cartridges around. The fan on the tape drive can be noisy though however this is designed to be sitting in a rack in a datacenter so noise shouldn't be an issue there. This may not work for a quiet office environment mainly because of the noise that the fan on the tape drive makes. A full height version of any tape drive will have a larger fan so it may not be as noisy. The library came well packed in it's original packaging. Mine came with full IBM warranty until 2017 (Purchased December 2014).EDITED:Forgot to mention. The description on the amazon site states that this is 220VAC. This is not correct. The power supply works on both 120v and 220v and is auto switching. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I will reply back when I have free time.
