The quintessential Romantic ballet, Giselle has remained a cornerstone of the classical repertory since its premiere in 1841. Peter Wright's landmark production for The Royal Ballet does full justice to the work's emotional and atmospheric power, with John Macfarlane's designs beautifully capturing the contrast between the human and supernatural worlds. Giselle is one of the most challenging and demanding roles in the repertory and has always been a showcase for exceptional ballerinas. With Marianela Nunez's ""absolute mastery"" of the choreography, she and her Albrecht, Vadim Muntagirov, are ""technically thrilling"" (Guardian).

Excellent - Just Excellent
This is a great version of Giselle, and has recently been screened in theatres throughout the country. My purchase has already given me so much pleasure and I am sure that it will continue to do so. I don't think that I would be able to find better value, and the great thing is I can "rewind" to get my own encores. The dancing is exquisite, and the principals act out the story so very well. Having said that I am in tier 4 Covid lockdown its cold and wet outside, so I think I'll go and watch it again.Excellent - Just Excellent

Highly enjoyable
This is a most enjoyable production, primarily, of course, because of the excellence of the principal dancers, but also because the camera work is more sensitive and restrained than in some other dvd versions of this ballet. Thus, one is allowed to see long, full-width stage views -- an important feature for a ballet in which the choreography of the corps de ballet is so important and central to the story (particularly in the final act). There is little flitting of the camera from one direction of view to another, or from the dancers' feet to their faces, and this allows one to appreciate the flow of the dancing.

Just perfect.
My favourite Ballet. I already owned the Carlos Acosta/Osipova version, so was interested to see this latest DVD. Marianela and Vadim, just perfect.

Wonderful
A great ballet, a good way to watch a ballet when you can’t get to a theatre.

Fab
Fab and just what I saw at our local cinema when it was streamed live - the closest I'll ever get to actually being there in the Royal Opera House. The 2 leads are suitably matched and both excellent. This is a suitable introduction to classical ballet.
