This is an "OEM" replacement filter. It supposedly filters much of the particulate pollution we experienced in the Chicago area from the Canadian wildfires. I have replaced one of them after about 6 months and it was dirty. This is an accordion type filter that fits perfectly in the housing. I put greater trust in this filter because it is branded Aprilaire.

The wife and I went up in the attic to change our filter for the first time in our new home, I just had three vertebrae in my neck fused together and she got to do the job and it was so simple. Our old filter was dirty from new construction. I was amazed how easy it was and how it fills the filter box, no gaps. I seen a filter here on Amazon that wasn’t Aprilaire and it was much cheaper but I chose to go with what was actually designed to go in our filtration system. Amazing, we go inside the house turn on the A/C and you can fill the air moving.

I chose the genuine 213 filter because a whole-house air filter is not something I want to guess on sizing. The airflow direction is clearly marked, so replacing the old filter only took a few minutes. I can’t personally measure the microscopic allergen claims, but I have noticed less fine dust settling near the return vents and on nearby furniture. The HVAC system has also continued running normally without unusual noise or any noticeable reduction in airflow. One helpful tip is to write the installation date on the frame and check it periodically instead of automatically waiting the full 12 months. Homes with pets, remodeling dust, allergies, or heavy HVAC use may need to replace it sooner. It costs more than some generic options, but the precise fit, solid construction, and dependable performance make it worth the price for me.
