Rather than wrapping it in plastic (the sofa, not the cat), I went on the hunt for a waterproof cover. Harder to find than you'd think! Even harder if you want it to look good and feel nice. Lots of cheaper options that either weren't truly waterproof according to reviews, or looked saggy. I took a chance on this slightly more expensive one and it was worth it. Has excellent stretch and fits nice and tight, but is also soft to the touch, and most importantly, passed the cat-spray-proof test! Liquid just beads up on the surface for easy wiping. I liked it so much, I ordered another one. That way I can swap them out when one is in the wash, thwarting my cat's attempts to sneak in some unprotected urine dispensing on my naked couch.
