Two years later I am here to buy another one for someone. The thing is that they are fabulous gifts, really. They fit modern decor PERFECTLY and while they very beautiful to look at, they are working perfectly perfect to measure time when you need it. This piece is fabulously amazing and inspirational... it really help one to realize the flow of time, how with every tinny grain of sand that seems like nothing time passes turning milliseconds into seconds.. seconds into minutes.. those into hours and before you know days, months and years pass. It helps me to visualize how previous the time is and how one can not take it back therefore one should really truly make most of it while we are here on this Planet to do good, to help each other and to preserve and protect the Earth for the next generation and those who will come after .. It is great gift for young people and kids who are old enough not to break it. Not only they can truly appreciate more the passing time but they also can way better organize the allocated time for any task or simply control their own productivity or leisure actives. It is SUPER fantastic tool to help kids to know how much time they have left for a given half hour or one hour task without knowing the time yet. It is great for anyone who has any kind of anxiety regarding alarm clocks that make noise and aert beyond their senses tolerance. This is a very gentle and ancient method of measuring time. It is perfect for quiet activities like yoga or internet browsing or breaks that you want to take from time to time, and while you want to monitor your time you don't want to be stressed by the numbers or alarm sounds. To me it is not only time flow measuring device, it is also a connection to those who passed before us, the magical connection with the generations before us that are gone with the winds of history. This little magical device revokes some special connection to those people and the past of humanity as a whole. I cherish it tremendously. It is beautiful gift for myself and all those I gave it to are constantly using it for all kinds of activities, I know it because I see it as some of those are my family members. It is very durable and it does not break easily although definitely I suggest to respect it and handle with care. I saw someone saying some sand grains get stuck. From my experience, this thing is flawless but I also know that any mass produced items even under manual inspection can pass with some imperfections from time to time that are hard to catch unless regularly being in use. If you get defective item I would recommend exchange as trust me that they can and are perfect if you get one that works as prescribed. I absolutely love it! Love it! Love it!

In a high tech world I am trying to be more low tech, plus I love cool looking things. To remind myself to take work breaks I was setting the timer for 30 minutes and then my friend gave me the idea of using an hourglass instead. Loved that idea so I searched the internet and they all looked pretty much the same but then I spotted this one. I really liked how it looked so I ordered it. The sand takes 30 minutes (not precise but close enough) to drain from one side to the other and I absolutely LOVE that it's in a square wood rectangle rather than others with the 4 pillars or rods connecting the top and bottom. This one just looked cooler to me. It accents my desk nicely and I put it in my line of sight so I can't miss when it runs out. I mean it's not like a timer that beeps at you, right? So the stats: It's not huge... just shy of 6" x 4" x 2," has a wood frame, glass hourglass and white sand. Came very well packaged in a custom box with thick foam to protect it. If you're in the market for an hourglass either as an accent piece or for practical use then definitely give this one a shot. You won't regret it.

Great for office or informal decor. Nice finish and has great novelty value. Soothing to see sand flowing or wasting time just gazing at it depending on how you want to look at it. Also a good Good time management tool to keep track of an hour. Happy with this purchase.
