Very impressive portable AC!
I was so frustrated when I first opened the box that I wanted to leave a terrible review, but the fact is I can't. I really love this air conditioner. The room I'm using it in does not have a window, so I drilled through the wall and installed a 5" vent. I asked the rufus AI what size the vent hose was, and was told 5". I searched the questions by other customers and they were told 5". The model I received has a 6" exhaust hose. This did not make me happy. I think the issue is that there are several different models on the same page. I purchased the 12,000 BTU + Heat model. It definitely has a 6" exhaust hose. Anyway, after a trip to Home Depot to get a larger hole saw and new vent (ever try to use a hole saw when there's already an existing hole? It sucks. LOL!!), I was ready to install the Black & Decker Portable Air Conditioner. And this is where it really started to shine. The setup is very easy, connecting it to the app and Wi-Fi worked first try, and I had cold air within minutes. The room is just over 400', but it's a converted attic with no windows and poor insulation. When I first turned it on, in was 92 degrees. In less than an hour, it was 80. An hour after that, it was at the temp I set, 70 degrees. Connecting it to Alexa was fast and easy and it is much quieter than the one I replaced. I tried to impress my girlfriend my changing the temp and fan speed with Alexa, which works perfectly. She was not impressed with my geekyness. :) Anyway, I've been using about a month and could not be more impressed. Highly recommend!!

Do not hesitate!
I live in Georgia where the summers are hot and the humidity is relentless. My AC went out and I couldn't afford a fix immediately. I got this to make my small house comfortable and this unit did the trick. It definitely doesn't cool like the central AC but it's not designed to do that. It cools my main living spaces to mid to high 70's while making it less humid which I would call comfortable. The cat is also less cranky since I purchased this unit. I would definitely recommend this to anyone needing a portable AC unit for a room or even the living spaces in a small home.

Does work
I love it. It does take a little bit for heat to come out. But when it does. It warms my large four seasons room up nicely

Listen to the negative reviews, for they speak truth.
Bought this instead of a split unit because the ease of installation. I was so happy with it. Until I started using it. This this is supposed to cool a room of 250sq ft so says the amazon sale. Well my room is 99sq ft. So a 12k btu unit is supposed to really cool the room, speacially on hot days. Well this didn't. It sorta refreshes the room to a tolerable temperature. But does not cool it efficiently. You really do not feel any sort of coolness unless you have the thing shooting air directly to your face. Making this a really expensive power hogging ocillating cool-fan, not an actual a/c. Its not as noisy as other people say, my fan is louder than this thing On a really hot day this thing will not cool the room at all. Meaning the a/c will always kick the compressor in high gear. I gotta say I used it for 2 full days and am worried about my next electric bill, since i didn't notice the compressor cycling off like an actual working a/c unit does. At day 3 a really hot day, around 95°F. This thing failed to deliver. The room was just hotter than if I had my windows open. I live in Puerto Rico, the heat here tends to go from 90°F up to 105°F specially these months. That was my breaking point and decided to return this for a refund. No further testing needed. No need to give it another chance. This sale is a rip-off. It promises and doesn't deliver. My advice to other people considering this, don't. This is not an option. This portable a/c thing shouldn't even exist. It doesn't work as advertised. You're way better off installing a window unit or a split unit. If you can' install splits nor window units, this could work to keep you and you cool if youre sitting in front of it, and use it as a fan that shoots cold air. But so can a home made cooling fan made with a foam cooler filled with ice, and this one is way cheaper than this thing.

Three Years Strong - 12,000 BTU AC Unit w/ Heat Mode - Very Happy! :)~
I've been using the12,000 BTU Air Conditioner w/ HEAT MODE unit since the summer of 2020 as my sole lower-level cooling source and to help my furnace in the winter. I live in an old, not-very well-insulated small 2 BR farm house with NO central air in the U.P. of Michigan two hours north of Green Bay, WI. Summers here, though relatively short, can be hot, humid and miserable – winters here go without saying (cold as h***). This ONE unit, with the help of a few strategically placed fans, has done a decent job of keeping the house cool in the summer, cutting down on the humidity inside and keeping my propane furnace from kicking over as often in the winter when heat mode is on. My thoughts: PROS: • Since 2020, absolutely NO mechanical issues whatsoever – cools & heats quickly and efficiently. • Unit is on castors – it’s easily moveable and not too heavy if you need to lift it over stairs. • Not overly loud when running – it’s no worse than most small window A/C’s I’ve used in the past (i.e., it doesn’t wake me up at night or startle me when it kicks over). CONS: • The venting kit isn’t the best – I had to modify the one that came with it to get a decent seal on the window I use for venting (CRTICIAL if you intend to use the unit in heat mode during winter). • The vent hose that attaches to the back of the unit can pop off easily if you move it around a lot (duct tape can help here though). • Isn't the easiest to drain the drip pan depending on where you have the unit set up (think keeping your carpet or hardwood floor dry here - draining is best done in an area that can be easily mopped up). NUTREAL: • Unit comes with a remote which has a programable timer. I’ve not used it much since I have mine on a smart plug that I can turn on or off through Alexa (or another smart plug app). • The thermostat on the unit disagrees with my home thermostat display – I’ve learned through trial and error what number to set it on to keep my house temperature level throughout. • The protective plastic film that covers the control panel has started to wear after three years of use, but isn’t unsightly or the end of the world (I could probably remove it, but why?)… Overall, I’ve been very impressed with this unit and just purchased another one (the 14,000 BTU AC w/ Heat this time) to better manage the climate and cooling/heating turnaround time in my home. These units are nice because they are transportable – truly HVAC multitaskers if you live up north without central air. Folks down south may not need the heat mode option, but having lived in Florida for a number of years, it’s a nice option to have available for those cooler nights in winter for a few extra bucks. Just my 2.3 cents here... I give this unit 4.5 stars out of five simply because of the vent kit and the hose attachment on the back – nothing that a little creative engineering can’t solve though… Solid device!

Surprisingly Heats the Room better than any space heater ever has
I wasn't sure about how this would heat, and granted I’ve only had it less than a week .. I pray it continues to work this well for a long time … living in a singlewide with less than decent insulation .. in the midwest .. heaters in winter are given a run for their money trying to keep the interior comfortable while its below freezing outside.. as long as you sit in front of a space heater that side of you gets warm .. well not with this baby .. (BLACK+DECKER Smart Portable Air Conditioner with Heat, 12,000 BTU (8,000 BTU SACC) Cooling, 9,000 BTU Heating for Rooms up to 550 Sq) it heats differently than a space heater.. it heats the air with a decent blower even on low .. it has adjustable thermostat to set a temp where you want it and it shuts off when it reaches that temp. The whole room and down the hall , even into the kitchen is warmed .. I’m impressed .. NOW THE ONLY THING is this .. unless you want to fool with draining every hour or so … HUGE PIA , yes this heater needs drained much like a portable ac , get aquarium tubing (5/8" ID x 3/4" OD ) and attach to the bottom drainage spout (yes it comes with a drainage hose to use, but we didn't have much luck getting it to flex how we needed it to, maybe you will have better luck) and drill a hole in the floor for it to constantly drain .. ever since we did that we haven't had to continuously manually drain it .. it only collects about 2 cups of water before you get the E4 warning light that calls for draining it .. and once you get that light, you wont be able to use the heater until its drained .. and here it happened every hour or so .. but other than that .. so far so good .. it truly is the best portable heater we have had in over 20 years .. hopefully it lasts a long time working as well as it does now .. the fan even on low is strong.. yes you can hear it but it’s a small price to pay for good heat .. I completely recommend this heater , esp if you live in a trailer

Very good, but flawed
The cooling unit does a very good job cooling in my 4-room condo with high ceilings. I haven't tried the heating yet. I am pleased with that. But the rig to put the exhaust into the window is pathetic. I got it to work by backing the unit up to the tube that goes into the shroud, and into the window. But that sticky stuff left little stickybits on my hands repeatedly. It doesn't still all that well to the wood frame and sash, or sill. Expanding the cover leaves quite a gap, so I'm glad my screen fits well to keep out bugs. In theory, the ducting works fine, but again the design and need for poor sticky tape had it fall out of the window a couple of times, so had to make sure (daily) that the lower sash is firmly planted on the top of the expander. On hot days, the unit worked well, then we got a stretch of "early Fall weather", quite cool and rainy, and the exhaust setup let in much cold air. I'm concerned about real Fall in another month, where I'll have to take the exhaust tube and expander out of the window, and make sure the sticky take doesn't affect the normal seal of my high-end windows (replaced about 10 years ago to stop the breeze across my knees from the original 1983 cheap windows. Then somehow reinstall next Spring? Again, the unit works fine, it's the exhaust setup that is poor, but when not falling out of the window, it exhausts the hot air well. Haven't had it long enough to see how the filter does, but so far no need to let condensate flow out in the tube.

Amazing Unit. Must buy!
I recently purchased the Portable Air Conditioner and I couldn't be happier with my decision! Here’s why this unit deserves all 5 stars: Cooling Performance: This portable AC is incredibly powerful! It quickly cools my 500 sq. ft. room within minutes. Even on the hottest days, it brings the temperature down to a comfortable level without much effort. The cooling speed is fast and consistent, providing relief even in the peak of summer. Energy Efficiency: I’m impressed with its energy efficiency, especially since it has a 5-star energy rating. My electricity bill hasn't spiked despite using it daily, which is a big plus for me. The eco-mode is particularly useful, balancing energy consumption without sacrificing performance. Noise Level: Unlike other air conditioners I've tried, this one operates very quietly. On the lowest setting, I can barely hear it running, making it ideal for sleeping or working. On the higher setting, it’s slightly louder but still within a tolerable range. Ease of Setup: Setting up the AC was straightforward. The included window kit is simple to install, and it took me less than 15 minutes to get it running. The unit itself is lightweight and easy to move around, so I can place it wherever I need it most. Remote Control & Features: The remote control is super convenient, allowing me to adjust the temperature, fan speed, and other settings without getting up. The digital display is clear, and the sleep mode ensures it cools quietly and gradually increases the temperature during the night. Portability: True to its name, this air conditioner is highly portable. The wheels at the bottom make it easy to roll it from one room to another. I’ve used it in my bedroom and living room with no hassle, and the compact size makes it perfect for apartments. Build Quality: The build quality feels solid. The plastic is durable, and it looks modern. Plus, it doesn’t take up too much space, making it perfect for small or medium-sized rooms. Final Thoughts: This portable AC has exceeded all my expectations. It's efficient, quiet, and does an excellent job of cooling my space quickly. It’s worth every penny and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and energy-efficient portable air conditioner. A fantastic buy!

Incredibly loud
DO NOT BUY! I never thought this could be so loud.... This piece of machine should be $300, but because of the supply shortage it was over $1000. I don't even know what is worse - the heat or the loud cranky sound!!!
