one of the best sharpening stones I have used
I got this 1200 along with the King 6000 in a single order, 2 different sellers. As the photos show, I got the good stuff, the deluxe version of each. I have sharpened 3 of my own knives so far today since they arrived, and I am about to sharpen the rest. It is that good to use. Feedback is awesome, I can tell immediately when i am moving off bevel or not following the grind lines. 2-3 passes for a burr on Rockwell 55-58, and 4-5 on Rockwell 60-62. Good cutting speed for a 1200 grit stone, but I can't wait to get the 300. I really like the feel of this stone. If you have been raised on Sharp Pebble and others like it, you will realize the difference a good stone makes once you have knives worth it! My Wusthof and Calphalon german steels, my cheap $15 dollar knife (Rockwell ~55) and my Sedge gyoto (VG-10 about 61HRC) all sharpen tremendously better than on those soft stones, and remind me of the old Arkansas stones I was raised on. The response to pressure, the smooth feel, the cutting power all remind me of those good stones. not the new ones either, old ones from before 1960.Anyway, this is a good stone, and considering the money, it is a fantastic stone. My only complaint is how fast it seems to be wearing, as there is a lot of grit in my pond. There seems to be no problem as it is still flat and matches my straightedge wonderfully, even after several sharpenings. I may upgrade to a different stone someday, but if I didn't sharpen a bunch of knives and use this a lot, just sharpening 1x a week/month with a few kitchen knives?? this would last for 5-10 years, at least. The 6000 is even better, near mirror-polish on all steels.UPDATE: after using it several times, and getting more used to it, the more I like the stone, and the more I hate 1 particular thing about it. The drying time. I live in an arid part of the country, and it still takes at LEAST 3 days of sitting out on a drying rack to be safe to put away, and I will still sometimes get wrinkling on the box. Cuts good if it has a roughed up surface and something to bite on, a decent tooth edge if you sharpen no higher in grit. A fantastic base for higher grits if you choose to go higher. Lots of grit, but seemingly slow wearing or, at least, even wearing, as it is still flat on the 1 side I have used. When I replace this, it will be with a splash-n-go

Good whetstone for beginners
I bought this after having watched a YouTube video of a chef who recommended it. I was gifted pretty good Japanese double beveled knives 9 years ago for my wedding. I’d consider myself an average home cook, I sometimes use my knives 3 times a day, sometimes I don’t use them at all. Anyway, my knives hadn’t been sharpened in 9 YEARS! They have been dull for a while but I still use them all the time. I have known that they needed to be sharpened but I didn’t know how to do it until I watched that video. So I bought this block. I’m sure it’s a great stone and that it’s just a learning curve, but i wish I would have bought one that had 2 grits (idk if that’s the right term). Anyway, on its own, it works well, but after sharpening one knife for about 45 mins (I know it should only take about 20 but I’m new at this) my double beveled knife was significantly sharper than when I started, but it also still had chips and nicks along the edge. Also because it is only one roughness, after washing the knife I noticed it rusted super easily. I figure I will need more of a finishing stone to polish it off. But for the 1200 grit whetstone, it works great to sharpen.

Amazing. I love these stones. For the money, you cannot beat them. Buy the 800 grit and you're set for life with the pair.

It works
Solid performance for solid price.I definitely noticed improvement in sharpness.I'm yet to achieve shaving sharpness with the stone yet.You do eventually need something to flatten surface, but that's much later. It's a good place to start.

Perfect stone for home cutlery
A professional sharpening stone at the best price I found anywhere. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it did not have any directions in English (but know how to use it thanks to the YouTube knife sharpening videos by Vincent at Korin Japanese Trading (Korin.com)

King K# Whet Stone: Potential Power, Untested
So, this King K# Whet Stone... from Japan, which, let's be honest, usually means 'sharp things done right.' It's got that 'Ara-to, 1200' grit, which, to my untrained ear, sounds like a secret code for 'serious sharpening.' They say finer grit, finer finish, which makes sense, I guess. This review represents my personal opinion and experience with this product. Money well spent
Arrived quickly and undamaged. Works very well. I was sharpening some kitchen knives that have taken some small chips over the years. I was able to grind back fairly quickly and establish a new edge angle with a 300 stone. I followed with this 1000 grit which left the knife very sharp and finally a 6000 grit which left the edge polished and scary sharp. Probably the sharpest I've ever made a knife. That said, this does require some skill and practice to sharpen free hand but of the stones I've used in the past, these waterstones were a bit easier to get good results than diamond or Arkansas

Amazing! Reprofiled the entire edge on a 440 stainless steel blade in less then ten min. This stone does heavy duty work on thick steel and it's fine enough you don't need lighter stones too get hair shaving sharp. A leather strop and this stone is my GO-TO sharpening system. And believe me I have plenty of sharpening gadgets but this takes the the cake.
