Good blade container; holster attachment is too clever
I like the aluminum version a lot in its basic functionality. I’ve kept it on my workbench and haven’t had any problems in the few months I have used it. I’d you’re going to keep this clipped to your belt, you can stop reading now, is a good product. My complaint is that the belt holster clip is not cleanly removable. There’s an M4 machine screw that goes through the body of the product, attaches to the holster, and then the wide countersink head of the screw is used to keep the locking magnet in place and in alignment. Removing the screw/holster results in not only a compromised locking functionality, which would be fine for my use-case, but the locking magnet also loses alignment, making the box difficult to open. I purchased a flathead countersunk and was able to get the box functional without a clip. The smallest ones I could find easily available were M4-0.7x6 screws, which are still a little too long and stick out the bottom of the body. Unfortunate, but the ridges on the sides are tall enough to prevent the box from sitting on the screw and rocking. Smaller height set screwed are readily available, but I doubt they would provide enough surface for the magnet to stick well. Basically, if you don’t want to use the holster, be prepared to take grinder to a machine screw. It seems like it would be trivial to either prevent the locking mechanism from relying on a screw for alignment or to include another very small M4 screw to the package. Is not a bad storage container, but it also doesn’t quite feel like a fully realized product.
