This test is for the set of 3 amp, 5 amp and 13amp 'Aukenien' fuses. You receive a total of 60 fuses. 20 of each kind. The fuses you receive are printed as being made by 'Aukenien'. (Photo) This review is purely to determine as to whether the fuses are safe, and conform to BS1362. The legal requirement for all fuses sold in the UK. This test is only applicable to fuses marked as being manufactured by Aukenien. Interestingly, since I've started doing these in depth reviews, some sellers have started to post photos of the different aspects of BS1362, and how their fuses comply, which can only be a good thing. First test is length. They should be 25.4mm long, +0.8/-0.4mm. The shortest fuse I measured was 25.343mm, they are all comfortably within specification. (Photo). The width of the fuse is 6.259mm. Next we will check to see that the ends are 'substantially flat'. These fuses have the customary Chinese dimple. I'd rather it wasn't quite so prominent, but to me, still just passes as being compliant. Lastly, we will break one of each rating open to perform an internal check. As can be seen in the Photo, they are filled with a containment substrate, in this case a standard silicate sand. It is there, to contain the 'explosion' of a sudden current overload and is acceptable and compliant. Now we come to the sizing of the fuse wire. The 3 amp and 5 amp fuses are both fitted with suitably sized fuse wire at 0.237mm and 0.272mm respectively. They both failed at expected currents. The 13amp fuse wire measured 0.327mm, slightly less than I would like, but still within tolerance. It will run slightly warmer than a larger wire. I have included photos of a 1st class Bussmann fuse and this fuse, both powering a 3Kw load. As you can see the Bussmann is steady at 57.2C, with this Aukenien running a little hotter at 68.3C. Still well within a temperature that I would consider safe. The wire is correctly soldered to the centre of each end cap. In many non-compliant fuses, you will find that the fuse wire is folded over and the end cap simply pushed on. In summary, the build quality of these fuses is compliant with BS1362, and in my opinion, they are all safe to be used in their correct environments. I have awarded them 4 stars. I bought this set for around the house and it’s been really useful. Comes with a good mix of sizes, easy to identify, and works perfectly when replacing blown fuses. Great value for the pack!
