Does this gooseneck mic need a battery?

The BY-GM18CB can be powered by 2 AAA batteries or XLR 48V Phantom power. The BY-GM18C is powered by XLR 48V Phantom power.

Is the on off button supposed to work with AAA? mine isnt lite or turn off.

I dint know as i use mine with phatom power from the mixer. I have 2 of these and they work great.

Does this mic have a built-in speaker, or does it need to be paired with another device?

these condenser podium mics work really nice, I bought a pair a few months ago and I can't say enough good things about them. that being said, they are very decent condenser mics, that require a phantom power equipped mixer which I have. otherwise without phantom power they work like regular mics that you have to speak right into them being within inches, with phantom power you can be a few feet away it's what they are truly designed for.. they do not come with any speakers built in. Mic to mixer and out to powered speakers , or to an amp then to passive speakers...
