However, in Israel -- despite a thriving culture of great coffee -- it is not uncommon for people looking for a quick fix at home to make "mud" coffee (same principle as "cowboy" coffee in the US): you put a big heaping spoonful into a cup, pour in boiling water, wait for the grounds to sink, then add milk and sugar if desired. Oh, I hear the thud of coffee snobs fainting, and for good reason. This method doesn't meet a single criterion of a "well-poured" cup of coffee, but it's fast, strong both in flavor and caffeine content, and tastes better than instant.
