my outside diameter is a hair under 4.5", would I go for the 4" or 5"?

You want the 4" cap. Pipes are all a standard size, the outside diameter of a 4" pipe is 4.5". Mine is the same and the 4" cap fit perfectly.

Great cap!

This is not an exciting product but is definitely perfect for my needs. It slips easily over my sewer cleanout and stays on tight. Very happy with this cap so far! Great price too!

Works great!

I needed a cover for an electrical outlet conduit that was outside. The opening was 6" and no one has them. I grabbed this, installed it and tested it with my garden hose. Leak free and it's made very well. In less than 2 minutes my piece of mind was back. Again, super well made!
