Great hat
It’s odd there is a criteria to grade this hat for ‘warmth’. It doesn’t do a thing to keep you warm, more the opposite. I gave it 5 stars in all fields though because it’s a great hat and I didn’t want to detract from it. Now, my wife would tell you it has the sex appeal of turnip but she’s never tried to jump me right after I mow the lawn before the hat so I figure the hat can’t do me any worse on that end. In terms of keeping the sun off though, it’s great. Wish I had bought it years ago. Wear it all the time working in the yard, to the pool, to the beach, etc. Washes off real easy too. Brim gets a little oddly laying every now and then but I just flex it back to how I want it and it largely stays there.

Fantastic hat for outdoor work and recreation, great customer service!
My work has me in the great outdoors on a daily basis. Now, I love the great outdoors (wouldn't have the job, otherwise), but, am of Bavarian German descent. Three things that Bavarian Germans are exceptionally good at:1. Brewing beer2. Making sausages3. Acquiring sunburnsThrough whatever twist of genetics, all of me tans darkly after my first day out in the summer, granting me some protection from sunburn for the rest of the year... except the part of my hair. Yes, the part of my hair will get a sunburn at every reasonable opportunity. For those who have never experienced this before, having a sunburned part makes things like showering, washing, or even brushing hair a pretty delicate affair. I can't think of many people that would want to get sunscreen in their hair, either. After searching through a plethora of women's sun hats (the vast majority of them clearly geared toward fashion, and not practical for outdoor work/recreation), I landed on this Sombriolet.I've had it for two months now, through some of the hottest, stickiest, most unpleasant summer weather the Midwest has to offer, and I'm very happy with my choice. My Sombriolet arrived in a flat, stiff shipping envelope. The brim was kept nice and safe, and the collapsible crown was none the worse for wear. Putting it on, I found the crown a little tight around my head, but quickly found the adjuster strap, and voila - perfect fit!The sweatband fabric inside the hat is very soft and comfortable. It also seems to wick moisture extremely well. I've spent many hours wearing the Sombriolet in uncomfortably warm, very humid conditions, and have never noticed a buildup of sweat underneath it. I was also pleasantly surprised, upon receiving the hat, to see just how many vents there were, along with their placement. They look fairly subtle, but are quite effective - again, no uncomfortable sweat buildup even in conditions that outdoor coworkers have also described as, "Oppressively humid."The brim sticks out further in the back than the front - something I did not notice until I received my hat - to shield the wearer's neck from the sun. When it's windy, a gust only makes the side of the brim bearing the brunt of the breeze tilt up very slightly - make sure you use that cinch piece on the chin cord if it's windy, or your hat might not tilt so much as go sailing away with all the gusto of a Styx song! My one and only complaint about the brim so far is that the front sticks out just far enough that it presents a little extra challenge when I'm birdwatching. To be fair, though, individual fit varies, and shortening the brim even a little would sacrifice sun protection. The hat is lightweight, comfortable, and I often forget I'm wearing it, even with the cinch piece drawn up to keep the wind from blowing it away! The hat is also rather attractive, which I consider a bonus tacked on to its comfort and utility.I did briefly have to stop wearing my Sombriolet in windy conditions. Through a freak accident, I lost the cinch piece for the chin cord (it was 'eaten' by the throttle lever on a boat). I called Outdoor Research, and told them what had happened. The woman I spoke with on the phone was very friendly and helpful, and, just a few days later, I received a small package in the mail with two new cinch pieces, and a couple of (actually pretty neat) Outdoor Research decals.

Well Made Hat
I bought the khaki hat. It is an excellent hat. My head is 22 and 1/4 inches around and a Medium size was just a little tight (I can wear it but it is just a little too noticeable on my head and leaves a line). I will keep the hat and give it to someone I know with a smaller head. I am afraid to buy the Large as I fear it will be too roomy. I hope this helps. I gave the hat a 5 because it is so well crafted and stylish. I think the company would do better by giving more leeway with an adjusting cord for one size fits all, like so many other companies have now. Still, a beautiful hat.

My Personal Favorite
I do a lot of hiking and, over the years, have worn a lot of different head coverings. Under the blazing suns of summer, this one is the best.First of all, I have a big (7 7/8) head, and the XL size fits me perfectly. Should my head ever shrink, there's a drawstring to snug things up. The hat catches and absorbs sweat, and evaporates it well. There's enough top side ventilation, even in the hottest weather. The headband is comfortable, and not scratchy or abrasive. In a STRONG headwind, the brim will want to swing up or down, but a tilt of the head will give you control. My old reliable finally went the way of all things, and my new one just arrived. Looks like the same quality, and feels and looks good (hey, I like this look) right out of the bag. Well, it actually arrived folded in half, but a couple minutes manipulating the rim soon solved that.I recommend this hat to all my friends.

This is my new favorite sun hat
This is my new favorite sun hat. I have a big head and finding hats that fit me is sometimes difficult. I ordered the extra large size of this hat and it actually fits slightly loose. No worries because I like it that way for comfort and when there is a breeze, a bungee cord in the hat band can be pulled with one hand to snug it up. The bungee can be released with one hand too. The brim on this hat is very wide... wider than any other sun hat I own. The brim is contoured so that it lays nearly flat against the back of my neck. I love that too because I backpack with my son's Scout troop and I hate when a hat's brim interferes with my backpack. This one doesn't. Made of nice thin lightweight material with a liner ever so slightly smaller than the outer layer. This allows any breeze to get into the ventilation slits easily and get through the entire hat. The brim is stiff enough to handle moderate wind, but probably not strong winds. The fabric is a quick dry type.

A hat for the garden....
I own several of these Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sun Hats. I wanted a stylish hat to wear out and about. I have taken good care of them; but, this is what I have learned about this hat: It has good sun coverage; but there are issues with it. The sides of the hat are not flat and curve up which does not look as good as a normal flat hat, in my opinion. The air pocket in the back of the hat puckers a lot, looks strange and is not becoming. The hat brim is flimsy and not reinforced with stitching on the brim; so, the underside of the brim ends up looking very ragged in a short period of time. Also, I have had many of them damaged in shipping by not being boxed. The hats now look ragged and I no longer wear these hats out and about, just in the garden...

Perfect sun hat
This hat is perfect for the job. It fits as it should and its extra wide brim offers a lot of protection from the sun. It has well placed mesh inserts to allow a bit of air circulation. I've looked at other sun hats and none are as good.

Best Sun hat for trekking on sunny days
Made sure that I selected the right size by measuring my head.It was a perfect fit with some additional space. The hat is very well stitched and detailed for a best fit and sun protection. Also there are small vent windows that will help your head to breathe even during hot sunny days.I have no complaints.

Fits well
Good fit, even without using the drawcord. Haven't had to use the chinstrap yet so have it tucked up inside.NB: after washing, when still damp, put things on the brim to keep it from going too wonky.
