Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this classic in demand 1977 Jazz Funk album from multi Grammy nominated Patrice Rushen. This album pre-dates her big commercial successes like 'Forget Me Nots' and shows her more as an incredible keyboard player in a similar style to Herbie Hancock's work of the time. On this album, Patrice introduced her vocals on the track 'Let Your Heart Be Free' which crossed over to a Soul audience. On 'Shout It Out', she is joined by some great musicians including James Gadson, Al McKay and Bill Summers, but the real highlight is Patrice's keyboard playing which is outstanding throughout. The album deserves it's place amongst the best Jazz Funk albums of all time. Soul Brother Records. 2009.

Astounding 3rd album!
I cannot understate my joy at this finally being released on CD - Well done Soul Brother! It's a masterclass in the art of jazz & funk from start to endListening to the Rhodes soloing on both "The Hump" & "Stepping Stones", you will come to understand why Patrice is still such a tour de force in the jazz worldThat this album was recorded when Patrice had just turned 22 years of age is a testament to her geniusThe fact that so many great musicians added their voice to this album just shows the level of esteem Patrice was held in even at such a young ageThe more people that hear this wonderful release, the more people will realise that there is a)much more to Patrice than Forget Me Nots and b) a supremely talented jazz pianist and arranger behind the deftly crafted songs she has continued to produceAn astounding album - one of the greatest jazz-funk releases ever

It Finally Came Out On CD!
OMG! I have been waiting, and waiting...and waiting for this stellar album to come out since...well, 1987, lol! Absolutely one of Patrice's very best efforts, less Pop/R&B and more Jazz Fusion in tone and content. Which I much prefer. The instrumental song "Yolan" (in particular) and it's pure yet simple melody is an eternallt stunning original song I have never forgot. This is the pre-R&B era for Patrice, but this was a major out the gate first effort that has never been made available until now. This is undiluted Patrice Rushen. Get it.

Funk? Soul Brother. Check it out now!
I had several friends at college in the late 70's who were big into soul, funk and jazz. Not one of them had ever heard this album before and each of them became Patrice Rushen fans once they heard it. These days I listen to a CD-R copy made from a tape made from my original vinyl. It was a departure from her first two albums "Prelusion" and "Before the Dawn" - it was funkier and more commercial and pointed the way that her career would subsequently move. The sweetness of her voice was heard to good effect on Let Your Heart be Free and her delicate touch on keyboards characterises Stepping Stones and Yolon. Funk fans aren't disappointed either! The track that always won people over, however, was the mighty Roll With the Punches. Now, the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up and the song's not even playing. Every keyboard trick is used on this high-energy jazz-funk instrumental. Charles Meeks holds down an awesome bassline (with Patrice herself playing high-register bass fills over the top) and drummer Steve Gadd propels the whole thing like a man possessed. Oh, but it's the break, the break where bass, percussion and electric piano build the tension before the brass comes screaming in. The only way I can describe the brass to you is like a group of trumpeters cliff-diving at the same time. So much new music pales into insignificance next to this...A big salute to Soul Brother records for doing what seemed to be impossible and remastering this gem from the original masters for release in November 2009. I've ordered two copies - just because I couldn't believe this was really, finally available.

(4)"Let Your Heart Be Free"がそのヴォーカル初披露となる点。 Straight from the Heart
