Sun Bulb 51720 Better GRO Octagon Cedar Basket, 8"

Good value and quality product. I wasn't expecting a hanger because I read a review from a purchaser who said one wasn't included. However, there was a metal hanger included in my shipment! Unfortunately I had already purchased some hangers for it that I may not be able to return. I am happy with this basket though!

Dimensions of the pieces allow for good drainage without washing out the orchid growing mix.

I love this pot. It is super cheap, looks very natural and my orchids thrive there. Very breathable for the roots. I already bought 4 of them. The only thing I should mention - going forward I am buying a net to prevent roots coming from the pot’s holes (see the picture). Sometimes they can overgrow too much, and it doesn’t look too esthetically pleasing.Also, I think because the pot is so breathable, it is better to plant your orchids in moss there or in mix of moss and bark instead of just bark.

I hung my dendrobium in this basket with twine. It looks wonderful and will allow for ample aeration. The gaps are too wide to hold most clay bead medium if that is your preference (not that a well watered dendrobium even needs much medium). I lined the bottom with a sheer material to hold some which works just fine for now. The only other con I've noted is that a few of the metal rings are somewhat bent and misshapen, but not so drastically that they are unusable, nor is the damage noticeable to the eye at glance while it is hung.

I was in search of baskets for my orchids along my fence. I wanted to house two together and be able to attach to the wood fence. The baskets were perfect and the rings on the top i used to hang on two nails on my fence instead of as hanging baskets. I just ordered 3 more!

However, I did a search for LARGE- and it is not nearly big enough- though nice for one or two orchids. I am hoping this same company had what I ask for LARGE. You can not tell the size from the picture.(And from my Picture, You can see I need bigger.)

The basket itself is very pretty and is at a very good price. However, the reason for the 4 star is because it is made a bit flimsy. I don't feel it is bolted together very well. Hopefully it will last as long as my other baskets that I have put orchids in, in the past. We will see I guess.

I had looked everywhere for a good quality wooden planter for my staghorn fern and this particular one is far better quality than anything else I have seen out there.The staghorn fern is a epiphitic plant like the orchid. However, the staghorn fern needs a wood for its roots to grasp onto. (While the roots need water- they do not need it as often and will die in wet soil)

I bought this basket for my Vanda Orchid which needed repotting. Has worked out well and the Vanda is currently sending out a nice bloom spike. Can't wait to see her again.
