UPDATE: Haircutting in Time of COVID-19
My original review, of many years ago: "My wife keeps my hair trimmed with this economical little gadget. It's so perfect that I haven't been to a barber in over a year. Another nice feature: the regular, double-edged blades can be changed without injuring yourself." UPDATE 08.15.20: After another night of home barbering I want to weigh in again in support of this product. I wouldn't bother but for the fact that, as COVID-19 continues to ravage the U.S., barber shops and hair salons are now operating at different levels of customer safety. I have no desire to put any honest, hardworking professional out of business, but I do want to address some of the concerns and criticisms that have been made of this product. 1. "It's cheap." Well, yes. It's very economical and has been inexpensively produced in hard plastic. I'm sure the manufacturer intended that it probably be used for light trimming of bangs. Howeverโand here's the value of the product for meโit can be used to cut a whole head of hair, male of female, IF your hair is not very long. My hair is quite thick but in length what I would call "a regular American cut": neither skinhead nor down to my shoulders. For years I have been using this product for regular haircuttingโevery 6โ8 weeksโand it works for me. 2. "The plastic teeth break off." I've owned three, each kept in a different location. None of the teeth has yet broken off. Of course, my spouse and I treat it gently. It doesn't profess to be manufactured as an industrial-strength product and shouldn't be expected to hold up as one. 3. "It slices my fingers." No. Properly, carefully seated in the instrument, the double-edged razor blades will not cut your fingers unless you are inserting the blades hurriedly and incautiously. Then, as with a double-edged facial razor, you may well cut your fingersโbut that's not a fault of this instrument's design. Slowing down and being more careful will solve that problem. 4. "My hair doesn't look as good after using it as if I had gone to a salon." Well, of course not. Just because I and others may so use it doesn't mean that the manufacturer intended such use. Some of us have opted to use it that way, and, because of my spouse's amateur skill, I've never been embarrassed by the outcome. I'm professionally employed but am not an actor, politician, or other worker in the eye of the general public, whose employment depends on expensive hairstyling. Now that I stay at home and work, like many others, I'm seen even less. Over the years I have saved literally hundreds of dollars with the regular use of a product that costs less than five bucks. I stand by my original recommendation. For simple trimming or more extensive haircutting, this is a well constructed, very economical, tool that gets the job done, saves money, andโin this dangerous seasonโmay provide a safe alternative to those who do not yet feel comfortable returning to their neighborhood haircutter.

What did I ever do without it?
I'm used to cutting my own hair, which is wavy and very thick. I've tried other razor combs, but I think this one is best, because of the longer cutting edge, the two cutting sides, and the replaceable blades. The price is the best also. The main thing is to use a light stroke and angle the comb so it doesn't take too much hair at once. Requires some getting used to and some caution. Blades are very sharp, so easy on the pressure! I either do a sort of a loose, soft wedge with lots of fringe, a short pixie, or something in between. I start with the Flowbee vacuum-design DIY haircutter to get the basic shape. While it's still wet, I put in some conditioner and razor it carefully all over. Then I rinse and blow-dry my hair more-or-less straight with a paddle brush, put in a silky leave-in conditioner (lots), and flat iron the front. Once it's dry and flat, I can create the detail with the razor comb (without the mistakes that curls would cause), smoothing behind the ears and around the neck, shaping the crown, smoothing from back to front, and framing the face. Once the cut is complete, I can let it curl or flat iron it, either way, because it's a balanced cut. Just the Flowbee alone will leave the hair too chunky and unnatural, at least for thick hair. It's an essential for me, though. The Flowbee site charges less than Amazon for their product. They're based in Houston and will ship by UPS. I've repaired my boyfriend's inexpensive haircuts with this, and it works very well at taking out bumps and ridges that aren't meant to be there. I just have to be sure to put in lots of slick leave-in conditioner, so that it doesn't pull. Also need to be sure the blades are sharp. (Another good way to do this is with a comb and thinning shears--the way the barbers do it, except they use regular scissors for this. You hold the section horizontal with the comb and carefully snip at it with the shears; keep combing down and lifting/snipping until all the bumps are blended out.) Some people say it causes split ends and frizz for them. Doesn't do this for me at all. The thinning shears will make my hair look frizzy and frazzled if I'm not careful (so I rarely use them on myself), but the razor combs never do that to me. Good luck to you, and I hope this helps. It sure saves money, once you're used to it. Also, you'll notice more easily the mistakes a hairdresser makes if you know how to cut your own. You'll want to continue giving yourself that special attention that is so expensive at a salon.

This product is great because a) it's cheap
I bought this to cut my hair. Not shape or style... I mean CUT my hair. This product is great because a) it's cheap, b) it takes two standard double-edged razor blades (the kind you use in any common safety razor), c) it comes apart and goes together easy, d) it's easy to clean (toss it in the dishwasher). I toss 2 blades into this, wet my hair in the shower, then go out on the patio to shave up the back & sides of my hair. I then shape the hair around the crown. It takes a bit of doing, and the sharpness of your blades makes all the difference, but you can get a very good, even, 1/16" white-wall cut with this comb very quickly and easily. For the top I just pull the hair to the distance I want and cut through it with the comb. The top may take some practice, but doing the sides and back is so easy anyone could do it. When I'm done, the blades have enough sharpness that I can use them for the next 2 weeks of shaving. So, I cut my hair short & tight and I have shaves ... for 2 weeks.... all with just 2 DE blades, a safety razor and this Tinkle Comb. One thing I will note, I originally bought this to shave our long haired dacshund. He's not a fan of loud trimmers, and he has very fine fur/hair. So, I figured a razor comb would do great, since I read other folks saying they used similar things on cats and worked out good. Well, it took fur off... but the way the razor comb works is it thins out the length of the hair so much to the part that it cuts it off at that his hair got frizzy-looking very easily. So, it didn't work out so well for that. But, worked great for my hair-cutting needs. Would buy it again.

Perfect for hair down there/bikini area! 4 possible hair lengths!
As the title says, I use this for my pubic hair. Iโm female and this is the BEST tool for the job. All of the hair gets trimmed and I NEVER get cut or nicked. 4 Length options are possible with this little hair trimmer in the bikini area- Longest hair: long teeth of the comb WITH the direction of hair growth Medium long: long teeth of the comb AGAINST the direction of hair growth Short: short teeth of the comb WITH the direction of hair growth Super short: short teeth of the comb AGAINST the direction of hair growth I find that the longer you leave the hair, the less prickly it is. However, when using this hair trimmer comb, the hair that is left behind is somehow less prickly than when I trimmed using my electric bikini trimmer to the same length. So I prefer this comb! The Dorco replacement blades come in a huge pack of of 100 blades for very cheap on Amazon. They are good and I also snap them in half to use them in my Leaf Shave razor. I used to get Brazilian waxes but I always end up with ingrown hairs after waxing no matter how well I exfoliate or what products from the salon I use. Ingrown hairs down there are the worst! Not only painful but also unsightly and ingrown hairs can look like a STI which is off putting. So I tried shaving with a normal razor. Still got ingrown hairs. And the stubble was awful! And I would cut myself down there sometimes because itโs hard to maneuver down there. Ouch! Then I got a little electric bikini trimmer which wasnโt bad but it requires batteries and was too large to maneuver through the nooks and crannies if you know what I mean. I also used to Glee body hair removal cream and while not bad, itโs messy, the results are only just ok and I donโt like the idea of putting chemicals down there on a regular basis. This little hair comb is the bomb! The blades can easily be changed out without a problem- so easy I did it one handed while recoding the review video- and you can recycle the blades so this is eco friendly, travel friendly, and so much cheaper than waxing!! I use this by laying down on a towel in the butterfly potion and holding the comb vertically and parallel to the โlipsโ and then combing outward against the direction of hair growth to trim all the hair on the โlipsโ and itโs so much easier than trying to use any other tool down there. The hair is short and neat, no pain unlike shaving or waxing, my wallet is happier without waxing, no ingrown hairs, and unlike shaving with a razor, no prickly itchy stubble after a day!

Not the best tool for the job I want done
I have a 14-year-old cat who is no longer taking the bus to care of her fur. She's not grooming herself as well. So she just started to get small mats in her fur she sure had cat so they're not very big but they are there and probably uncomfortable. She does not like being held she does not like being brushed so trying to get those out of her is a pain in the backside. I'm afraid to use scissors because I don't want to accidentally cut her and not just her fur. So I thought these would help. Not so much. I understand that's not what these are actually made for, but for this job there are the best. You have to hold them at such an angle and anything the slightest bit thick it won't touch. Even if I go below the mat it doesn't really want to cut the fur. And she's not going to thick coat. She's a short-haired tabby so it should cut through a fairly easily but it doesn't. It doesn't help that she doesn't want to stand still for it, but even when I can't keep her still this just doesn't do the trick. Maybe if he is still a person's hair, but I'm not sure how you would use it without kind of butchering the person's hair but ๐คทโโ๏ธ

It works for cats
I purchased this for my long-haired cat. He gets mats in his fur and I wanted to be able to give him a trim without scaring him with an electric shaver and scissors just don't cut it (pun slightly intended). I picked this one because of its simplicity and price. I have to say that it does a fair job. It does tend to get clogged with his soft, fine hair after only a couple of strokes, but it's easy to unclog with your fingers. Some hair gets wedged between the teeth and the razors, and that requires the removal of the cover, which is also easy. The cover slides right up and you can take it off and remove/replace/clean the razor blades. Then, you can put it back on and it slides right back down if the blades are aligned properly. The wider teeth are better for removing a lot of hair quickly, and they are easier to unclog; the thinner teeth are more difficult to unclog, but they don't remove as much hair, and the blades are further from the end of the teeth (which feels safer in sections where his hair is thin or close to his skin). It's actually pretty cool to hear it slicing through the hair, and my cat isn't bothered by it--actually, he kind of likes it. All-in-all, it's a simple and effective product at a good price.

Perfect for cutting your own hair
Despite cutting my own hair since before the pandemic, I never perfected getting the layers just right with scissors. All that changed when I started using this razor comb. Now, I use scissors to trim the length then comb through to create layers. Iโve received many compliments on how it turned out! Just between you and me, I also tried it on my legs and was impressed with the knick-free results. The razor is very sharp, but contained within the teeth of the comb. This has become my favorite self-care tool.

Love the product- excellent results!
I have a very short pixie-ish haircut, and even though it is super easy to style and a real time-saver every morning (shower, run my fingers through it, and go), it requires regular haircuts every 5 or 6 weeks. WIth the Tinkle Hair Cutter, I can stretch those visits to the hair salon by a couple of extra weeks or more. I decided to go with this particlular razor comb because it is inexpensive and the reviews were mostly positive. I was nervous to use it at first, so I only used the side with with the teeth more spaced out, and I didn't "dig down" into my hair in order to avoid scalping myself. I lightly passed over my entire hair, combing only the outer part, then went back and cut a bit more deeply in the places that tend to grow faster- which is why I bought this product in the first place. After about a month or so, I always see a "bump" of thick hair at the top left side of my head that desperately needs thinning. My hair was dry when I used the cutter so that I could stand in front of the bathroom mirror and examine exactly what I was doing (I would never use this with wet hair), and I loved the results. The ends of my hair did seem a bit "frizzed", but I knew after a shower and some finger-stying it would look great, and it does. I love this product and just bought two more. I think the next time though I will set up a mirror and do my cutting in the backyard- I have lots of thick hair, and I had a ton of little choppy hairs EVERYWHERE in my bathroom. I bought this product from Beauty 4 You and received this item quickly- maybe 4 or 5 days after ordering it- fantastic!

Easy hair thinner!
Just comb and it thins your hair. Good one. Be careful when using it. It takes quite a bit off if you aren't careful.
