Amazing clay!
This product is of excellent quality and delivers what it promises. It guarantees a very strong hold for the hair. The finish is, as promised, matte. The hair doesn’t shine, it just looks smooth and healthy. It’s true that applying the product can be very difficult. It’s very firm and thick. You need to warm it up well beforehand. You can take a SMALL (!) amount into your hand and simply warm it up using a hairdryer ;) And don’t put it in wet hair. I have very thick, medium to long hair. The hairstyle lasts all day. You can also easily restyle it with your fingers during the day, no problem. And yes, it washes out easily with shampoo. No problem at all.

best product I've found to hold my heavy hair
I love this product. I have very heavy hair and have usually had to resort to firm-hold styling gels. this is the first product I have found that provides me with sufficient hold while remaining pliable and allowing for adjustments throughout the day. I also think it smells great. i have seen some reviews that aren't fond of the residual left on their hands. I don't find it to be an issue, but could understand how some might - it is certainly sticky. but that stick is what makes it work so well in my hair. then I just wash my hands 🤷

Awesome hair product
I absolutely love this stuff, it’s just a little pricey. But has an awesome hold, a light woodsy smell, the only reason I give it four stars is it’s just expensive for a small container

Best stuff for my hair
I'm a Hispanic male with wavy, thick, dry frizzy hair. My haircut is short on the sides 1-2 guard with a scissor cut on the top. About an inch and a half in length. I have to say, since I've been using hair products (since I was 12, I'm 24 now) this is the only one that I'll buy consecutively. I've tried quite a few products, AC fiber, AC pomade, AC molding clay, AC gel, AC texture lotion, defi pomade, axe, whatever paste, axe spiking glue, short sexy hair wax and frenzy, redken maneuver wax, and several other gels/pomades/wax/paste. This by far is the best I've found. Ive had some success with other products some that seemed to work for a while then I realized it just didn't give me the look I wanted, which is why I waited so long to do a review on this product. I wanted to make sure I actually liked it, instead of convincing myself that I did because it was kind of expensive. I don't even want to know how much I've spent trying to find a good product. I've gone through several trends from messy hair to a side part. For the most part now I do an informal side part. This product can do both pretty well. The problem I've had with most products is there is either not enough hold, too thick, or matte products that make my hair look dry with no visible texture or separation. This has a little bit of shine. Which is great for my hair since it is very black and sometimes dry and frizzy. It's important that you try different ways of putting this into your hair. Takes a bout a little less than a dime size amount for my hair and make sure to rub into your fingertips very well. For me, wetting my hair pretty thoroughly first, then towel drying works best. If I put it in dry it doesn't do as much. Sometimes I put it in dry just to give my hair a little more texture. This stuff has great hold, and it seems to get better through the day. I find that if I fix it, go to work and by the time I'm done I can mess it up a little for a casual look and it still looks great. I can't say enough about this product. However this is my experience, I've tried products that others have raved about that just did not work for me. Hopefully this will work for you and you can save some money instead of buying the wrong stuff only to toss it in a couple of months. I use this almost every day and it's lasted several months. I will be buying again.

Great product and results!
I recieved one of these as a gift from a friend so I tried it out and liked it so much I started using it regularly. I was glad to find ut on Amazon and a good price. It's very easy to use and it doesn't take much so the jar lasts quite awhile. This pomade has great hold for styling without making your hair stiff. It also makes your hair very healthy looking and shiny. It holds up well throughout the day and is easy to wash out. I highly recommend this product!

Good Product but BEWARE of forehead Acne.
I have thick silky medium length black hair and I usually style my hair against its natural direction. I need a product with a strong hold and Clay Pomade by Baxter of California is one of the strongest hold product out there. One has to understand that most hair products behave differently in different temperatures. I live in North East where is hot and humid during the summer and cold and dry during the winter. The behavior of this product changes consistency with change in weather. Winter: Hard to scoop from the jar and you need to put in some effort to warm up the product on your plans before you can apply. I sometimes use the blow dryer to warm it. Once in your hair, It provides a very strong hold with low shine and lasts well beyond 10 hrs since the outside temperatures keep it firm. Summer: Easy to scoop and warms us easily on your palm. Applies easily on your hair. Looses hold within 3 to 4 hours. Trying to restyle with damp hands just results in the product washing off. Now the BIGGEST problem. Its a problem I face but might not be an issue with other. The product washes off easily and during the summer months it mixes with sweat and trickles down my forehead clogging my pores and resulting in terrible Acne. I started using another product and I was acne free for over 2 years. Since I liked the finish and smell of the product I decided to give it another try and my Acne is back again. This may not be a problem for everyone but buyer BEWARE. As I mentioned, these products react significantly to temperature changes.

I was swayed by all the positive reviews, but unfortunately....
This is an awful product and has forced me to reconsider the entire trend towards independent boutique cosmetic products (especially among men). My hair is approximately 1 1/2 inches on top and, usually, clean-faded around the sides -- your pretty standard, if trendy, men's hair cut. Its texture is fine, and depending on the occasion I wear my hair rough parted to the side with some bangs, or put a comb through it and part it to the side. Doing a significant amount of research before buying a new men's hair product, and having familiarity with other clay-based products and texturizers (i.e. Aveda), I was admittedly excited about Baxter's and believed I had found a new "the one" or best-kept hair secret that would do everything I wanted it to do. Unfortunately, however, this product doesn't really do what its description--and its many positive reviews--purports that it does. Perhaps my experience can be summed up by discovering that this product is much, much more "pomade" than "clay", and pomades and my hair have never really got along, but here is my general and very terrible experience with Baxter Clay Pomade: Gives hair decent shine and masculine smell, however no matter the amount/quantity used, leaves hair notably flat, heavy, unmanageable, and without distinction or texture; difficult to apply evenly and provides poor coverage; since the product is so course and thick, despite rubbing and warming it between your hands at length its application can be a drag since it tends to even rip out a lot of your hair. It leaves an incredible residue and you'll find yourself cleaning-up any nearby glass surfaces since your inevitably product-soaked fingerprints will find their way all over everything (cleaning your phone screen 3 times a day). And, despite this product having no problem sloughing its grease all over your hands, ears, face desk and phone throughout the day, good luck removing it when you actually want to. As a few other reviews have mentioned, it is not even close to water soluble and you will need to wash/rinse your hair, at minimum, three times to fully remove Baxter Clay Pomade. Thus, to leave this review on a high-note, since this foolishly hyped product does nothing but leave your hair unwieldy, flat and greasy and with virtually no ability to remove it from your head, think of the build-up, think of the scalp acne.

Repeat buyer. This is the real deal
I have avg grey hair with slight wave. Half a thumbnail is all I need after I shower. I rub it in my palms, apply, brush through, and have a great non-sticky, non-greasy, soft hold that keeps my hair where I want. It's beeswax & clay, so it can build up slightly, but never greasy/oily, and an extra shampooing easily gets it all out if needed. I'm cheap, but don't mind paying for this. I first ordered Aug 2024. Just bought my second jar today April 2025. If you want beeswax and clay they are the first two ingredients listed. 👍🏻👍🏻 [FWIW, I tried a different brand's tobacco vanilla stuff (smells nice) but it was sticky, lost it's hold, and left my hair poofy. ]
