Does the "easy open push button key lock" actually lock people out or do you simply have to press a button to open the chest?

It does come with a little key. But for security I suggest buying a decent lock. It opens easy by pushing down on a button.

The dimensions are listed as 30 x 15.75 x 12.25 - is 12.25 the height or the depth? I need this to fit on a shelf that's 12.5 inches deep. Thanks!
