50-Gallon Rain Barrel, Flat Back Rain Water Collection Barrel, Graphite Color

I just purchased a second barrel. Had the first one about a year and needed more volume of water. The two went together perfectly. No problems with either barrel.

When the rain barrel arrived, the box was damaged. The barrel was scratched and scuffed. Not a big deal, as it was being installed in an out-of-sight spot, but disappointing. After one year, we noticed that it didn't have much water in it. Turns out that the seam in the back of the barrel had split open - the only thing I can do now is recycle it and buy another one (from Home Depot this time). Cannot recommend.

The inside was dirty and debris littered. The fill slot at the top is too narrow to get in to clean it, I cut out a circle in the ledge the screen sets in to clean inside. Airborne tree litter comes to rest on the screen and pollen gets through. I bought a drain pan for a water heater to cover the top with a bit of modification to fit. If I had it to do over I would seal off the top screen and fill it through a garden hose attached to the hole meant for adding another barrel (with a screen of course). I stacked 8x816 concrete blocks for a base, you can stack them as high as you want.

Their was a very strong rain that lasted about 20 minutes. The barrel filled up and when the water level reached towards the top, it began leaking. I tried to tighten it but it just made it worse. When it had completely drained I saw that it was not water tight. I may have just been unlucky but I will do more research next time.

The very first time it rained it leaked. I put more silicone all around and thought that would stop it. It still leaks, only not so much. I even used Teflon tape on the spigot. The box was thrown away, so I am stuck with trying to fix it. Other than the leaking issue I like it, but what good is a barrel with a hole in it.

I write caution for this reason ... when I bought this tank and its respective stand, nowhere does it mention the limited use. Think about it, the tank and the stand are for water ... It rains in the winter and yet it states to store in the winter (Note ... the picture is from the stand only). When installing the tank, the instructions state to store in the winter and empty by turning the unit upside down. Well ... so, much for it being useful. To be fair though ... the product works well and as intended and it was delivered as promised ... that's why I gave it a rating of 2 ... if not, I would have rated it as 0. This is virtually useless for my needs. It rains in the winter!!
