Turn simple doodles into beautifully designed floral illustrations with How To Draw Modern Florals, a step-by-step guide that teaches everything you need to know about drawing modern florals, including: • Tools of the trade • The anatomy of a flower • The basic shapes for drawing a flower • Where to find inspiration You'll feel as though you're sitting down with author Alli Koch at a coffee shop as she walks you through the process of drawing and designing classic favorites like the rose to today’s trendiest florals, as well as succulents and cacti. How to Draw Modern Florals is an introduction to drawing, so no experience is needed! If you can draw an S or a C with a pen, then Alli can teach you how to draw a beautiful, modern floral design! Review: A must-have for anyone looking to expand their skill set! - I'm pretty picky about my "how-to" books. It's very difficult for me to find a book that doesn't overexplain and make me feel like I don't have any creative freedom, or underexplain and I don't have any idea how to get from step one to step two. That being said, this book does an excellent job of breaking florals (and more) into 4-8 very easy to follow, color coordinated steps. It is a very well put together, organized, and beautiful book (and that's before taking into account the illustrations!) When I started seeing modern florals pop up in tattoos, on wedding stationery, as prints, on mugs, etc., I looking at the drawings longingly and tried a few times (unsuccessfully) to create my own. I didn't think I'd ever be able to draw a flower that was recognizable for what it was. After reading and working through Alli's book (twice now 3 days), I'm blown away by the fact that I actually can draw florals—and it's all due to this book and Alli's almost magical way of breaking complex flowers into easy (if sometimes unusual!) shapes and lines. And on a more aesthetic note: as a wedding stationer and graphic designer by trade, I can assure you that this book is gorgeous from start to finish! The white space doesn't feel like a waste, it adds to the beauty of the book and ensures that you're not feeling overwhelmed while learning and practicing. And it's a practical book, too—having this copy in a wire bound hardcover style makes it so easy to practice anywhere. With all of my sketchbooks being wire bound, I can fit both the Intro book and a sketchbook next to each other in my lap, if need be. It's also a larger book than I was expecting, but not in a bad way at all—in fact, I'm very glad to have the extra room for sketching. Another point I'm extremely pleased about is the lack of blank pages. Rather than tons of extra blank pages for "practice" (because really, blank pages only add padding to most how-to books), there is one practice page for each subject. It's fantastic! I feel like Alli cares more about including usually subject matter than trying to create a thick how-to book, and that's the way it should be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to expand their skill set, wants to discover a new hobby, already enjoys plants and flowers, or is in the wedding industry like me. It's a wonderful book from start to finish! Review: The Spiral Bound Copy is a must. Happy with purchase
I get a little nervous about ordering how to drawing books without seeing a little bit of how they are inside. I did do a dive on YouTube before purchasing so I then knew if they would be for me or not. I ended up buying both of Alli's floral books and these are very good. I am not a beginner floral sketcher but I think a beginner should be able to follow along quite well. The step by step tutorials are easy enough. A little more advanced than Aska Hall's floral tutorial books if I were to compare the 2...but they are also 2 different artists with 2 different styles. There are quite a lot of popular flowers in here as well as foliage. Very sturdy books. Glossy pages for practice... I probably will use my own paper. I don't want to muck up the pages with ink. Glossy paper and ink is no bueno but not a deal breaker. Overall, I'm happy with my purchases. If you love drawing flowers and bouquets, these are perfect.

A really cool little starter book, but I wish it had more pictures!
I like this book very much. It makes it so simple to draw pretty flowers. I have a couple of other books meant to teach you how to draw flowers, and they’re complicated. I’m not trying to be an actual artist, I just want to doodle flowers in my journal that are recognizable as flowers, and it gets overwhelming when a book takes you through a 10-step process, but this book doesn’t do that. It usually takes you through a 4-step process. I also like that the version I got has a spiral spine, so I can open it fully flat to get to the page I’m focusing on. My only complaint is that there aren’t more flowers to draw! That’s why I gave it 4 stars. For the price, I wish there were more flower examples inside.

Don't think twice, buy it now!!
This book literally changed my life. You're probably reading this going "whatever, so dramatic" but I'm dead serious, it really has! I've always loved art and crafts but veered more towards crafts because I felt my art was so sub par. Most of my life was "wow, I wish I could do that, too bad I suck at drawing", even doodling sometimes intimidated me cause I'm a perfectionist. I will admit though, when I first opened up the book, I was overwhelmed and already discouraged. Why was there barely any direction?! Only two or three steps to draw each flower?! Omg, how did they go from a blob to perfection?! I was convinced I had fallen for another one of those learn how to draw books that were impossibly hard. BUT instead of giving up, I gave it a shot and guess what?! I was able to do it! Once I started drawing, it all made sense and I was able to draw these amazing floral illustrations that I could have only ever dreamed of doing. By having simple instructions, it allowed my creative side to take over rather than going back and forth making every stroke identical to the guide then stressing out because it didn't look as good. Alli provides the base and general concept of how to draw beautiful floral illustrations so it actually sticks in your mind! If you asked me to draw something from one of those how to books without it in front of me, I would just put down the pencil and walk away. But these florals, I'm able to draw them like I've been doing it for year without the book in front of me! The other great thing is the confidence it gives you. Once you draw one and you're like "Wow, that actually looks really good!" this confidence develops and you feel like you can tackle on anything. Alli gave me a confidence that I never had before and actually started doing commissioned paintings and drawings and it all started from this amazing little book. Thank you Alli!

I really love having this book, but it feels incomplete
Overall, great book. I would like to find the other books I was considering in a book store and compare, but overall I will be coming to this book over and over. Clear instruction and images and my first attempts came out awesome! The few issues I have: - No real instruction on line shading. I think some conceptual instruction on shape of lines, clustering, etc would have been insightful for providing more shape. Instead I'm forced to copy what's there and don't have a clear idea on how to make my own creations. - One page on leaves, really? This part pissed me off the most. There are zero leaves in the flower directions. What leaves GO with poppies vs lilacs? It would be nice to have some pairings or ideas as to how to compose stems and leaves. The single leaf page is seriously "this is how a basic leaf looks" and no real theory on pairing them with flowers, which I guess she just wants you to be creative and make stuff up? I'm way too left brained for that. - Basic instructions on flowers only and no real theory on "this is what you think about when you want different angles" - like, I can look up youtube videos for instructions. If I'm going to buy a book, I wish it were thorough. It's not even incredibly thick, I think the publishers could have agreed to more pages overall. It's basically 5 examples of flowers at different angles but no instruction/theory on how you would recreate the steps on your own or anything that's transferable to additional flowers and let you understand how to figure it out on your own. - Finally, the composition section is also incredibly basic and doesn't provide theory/ideas on what makes a composition work. It's two examples, a wreath and a bouquet. Very small images so you can't even tell what filler is there or how it's really put together. This section is what I was most hopeful for, really wanted it to be brimming with ideas and how to put everything together. Really disappointed and I'll have to continue youtube searching.
