Let the Old Dead Make Room for the Young

The son, who isn't in the story, but is strongly felt, can't bear the idea of his widowed mother being sexual; he can't free his own urges unless he conceives of her as an old woman. But her fleeting lover of years ago still sees, after revulsion at her manly hands, her sexual grace behind a "grille". Their liason was a one night stand shrouded in mystery to him. They are both trying to protect idealised monuments and banish, debase and erase them. A more neurotic than erotic story. Decision rather than desire. A well written exploration of sexual frustration.

I'm rereading all his works. One of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

A strange but enjoyable little novella about a man who picks up a much older woman for a one night stand.However, the twist in this tale takes the reader:s breath away as we discover that the protagonist is thinking taboo thoughts during the sex act with the older woman. I rate this story a four star read. Naughty and nice.
