A quick test revealed that it works great. It's just bright enough to light up a small room, but not quite as bright as a desk lamp, certainly not as bright as a standard lightbulb or fitting. Good enough for an emergency though, safer (and more compact) than candles.There's a fold-out loop on the top that can be used to hang it from a hook or a string, and a magnet embedded that lets you snap it to almost anything metal. I was surprised just how useful that is, I must have spent a good 10 minutes just attaching it to stuff around the room, to see how it lights up the space at different angles. It's also flat on the top, so you can simply just set the unit down on any flat (ideally high) surface and it will throw the light upwards, bouncing it off the ceiling, lighting up the space. Very very versatile.It's light too, and compact.I took the batteries out, popped it back into it's handy little box, and tucked it away.I can't comment on the longevity or reliability of this, clearly, but from what I've seen of it so far I think it's great.
