Rugged Travel Journal
I have a few Lochby products and I have been very happy with them. They typically are quality made, well designed and meant to last for years. I do a lot of writing, usually in standard notebooks and journals, and I was interested in the field journal that the company offers. It is a good product and I am pleased with it. This is a nice canvas A5-sized notebook cover, and it is designed for the traveler and the outdoorsy type. It is made of waxed fine-weave canvas on the outside which is water resistant, and it has a honeycombed nylon-like lining that is also water resistant. All that said, this is not a fully closed or zippered journal cover and it will allow moisture in if submerged or held such that water can touch the contents. There is a nylon strap along the spine side, so it can be carried to minimize exposure. The closure is a substantial metal buckle. It's a little tough to get open and tougher to close again, but it won't wear out like an elastic band and it won't let go like some magnet closures sometimes do. The inside of this cover has pockets on either side. One side has one big pocket that's suitable for tucking in a notebook cover. The other side has the same but it also has a couple of smaller pockets sewn onto that, and those smaller pockets are good for holding smaller items like keys, a small amount of money, or writing supplies. The included notebook is a small A5 dot grid notebook with 72 pages (36 sheets). I put an Oasis notebook with 80 sheets in and it fit without issue and I was able to tuck the covers into the pockets. So, this cover is not limited to the smaller fillers that come with it. It will not work well with hardcover notebooks, though, as there's no way to get the outer covers in both pockets (it will accommodate one side, which may be sufficient). Other extras include a pen loop, ribbon markers, and elastic bands to hold sheets. I do like this field journal. It's a good product and it's designed to last for many years. I am hopeful that the company will release a full-sized journal cover sometime down the road.

A wonderful product for people who love writing, journaling, and sketching.
As a person who loves journaling, taking notes, and writing in general the Lochby Field Journal completes every category I wanted in a journal case. This particular model will hold 2 A5 journals and secure them in with elastic bands so you don't have to worry about any of your notebooks falling out. Made from canvas coated with a protective water resistant wax, it feels very nice in my hands and is the perfect size for my hands to hold, and has a nice texture that canvas provides and I have no doubts that the Lochby Field Journal is sure to last for years to come. As my every day carry field journal I really appreciate the multiple storage pockets it has so I can store my fountain pens, mechanical pencils, and any other item I would usually carry in my pocket for journaling or note taking. For around $70 this heirloom quality field journal is in my opinion an heirloom quality item that will last for years and years, a fantastic value. I recommend the Lochby Field Journal for anyone who loves to write and sketch and also wants to be able to carry their notebooks and writing instruments wherever they go.

Best office/field journal
I would definitely buy it again but this thing will never fail! My job requires quite a bit of writing in the office and in the field. I've owned at least 10 notebooks w/ covers over the years and this one is hands down the best. I've been using it daily for the last 3 years and its still going strong. It has the best combination of size and storage for my needs. It holds 3 A5 notebooks easily and has plenty of room for misc items such as business cards.

Almost perfect. Just fix the ring retainer.
I’m a research plant scientist and spend 50% of my workday in the greenhouse. I keep a physical agenda and laboratory notebook and use both regularly in the greenhouse. I need a cover to hold both books and came across the Lochby field journal. It’s been perfect for what I needed. Keeps my notebooks clean, easy to carry, and holds a flash drive, ruler, pens and pencils. The only thing I would change is how difficult it is to slide the aluminum d ring into the webbing retainer. It typically requires two hands and is a pain in the butt. They need to make that function work better. Otherwise don’t change a thing.

Awesome field journal
Absolutely LOVE my field journal. I love notebooks and taking notes while I read so this thing fits the bill. Looks cool and rugged and very functional. The waxed canvas is great, I love how takes on marks and scratches. Quality is decent but for the price i was expecting something a tad more robust. "Designed in the USA made in Vietnam". Typical. Pretty sure there are knock offs half the price that are just as good. The hook closure is cool though, I'd hate this thing if it had a zipper. Overall I'm really happy w it, was bday gift I bought for myself after eyeing one for so long. If you can afford one, get it, otherwise I'd search for a knock off of something similar.

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH FR FR
I was trying to find some journal covers that would fit the following criteria: 1) must cover at LEAST front and back (the all around zipper is a plus but not necessary) 2) It had to have pockets that could fit at least 2 pens, a thin packet of sticky notes, a mini tape ripper for washy tape, and my washy tape roll 3) It had to be big enough to fit my soft cover journals (they are A5) - a huge plus if they can fit a hardcover A5 journal but not mandatory 4) It should leave minimal if not NO damage to the soft journal when all writing tools are inside and slight pressure is applied outside (this is to simulate travel in a back pack or in a suit case) 5) Items should not easily spill out when the journal cover is shaken (aka I don't want my writing tools to be damaged upon rough travel or accidently slip out if I carry it by itself). This test is more important on journal covers that do not have a zipper that goes all the way around but also if it does have a zipper the contents inside shouldn't be moving around like crazy as this can cause unpredictable damage to said soft cover journal. Here are the following results of my test: 1) It covers the front and back. If that's enough for you great! However, I will not be taking this out on a rainy day as I wouldn't take out my journal on any rainy day without it being in it's own zip lock bag. (10/10) 2) The pockets. Omg, THE POCKETS. I definitely don't need all of these pockets. However, I will rave about the net pocket on the inside cause that fits my washy tape and my tape cutter. The is only one pen holder, but I have seen other people sorta clip their pen on the handle so not terrible but sorta wanted one more. (9/10) 3) It was a bit sketchy at first to push my journal in between the two elastic cords but my soft cover journals went through just fine and no damage to their exterior which was perfect! Tested with a hard cover just because and that fit perfectly too. I'm not seeing too much damage on the spine of my journals when closed which is always a plus (10/10) 4) OMG. I thought I was going to have the same issue with his journal cover as with the other journal cover. I put my washy tape and my tape cutter as those would do the most damage to my journal. It was a bit awkward of a close but overall no significant damage. I'm sure with continued pressure my soft cover journal would experience some dent but for my short term testing, nothing! Which is always so nice! (9/10) 5) When i say, I put my items in the most sketchy pockets/flaps and my pens haphazardly into the journal cover and SHOOK the HELL out of it and not one of them moved (maybe the pen since I didn't fully clip it on so user error there) and EVERYTHING stayed in one place? (10/10 - would shake again) I was super impressed with the journal cover. I'm almost tempted to use it with my hard cover even though I bought it for my soft cover journals. This is worth every penny right of the bat. Now, I can't speak for the longevity of the product. I do tend to abuse the shit out of my journals and there aren't as many really nice hard cover A5 journals (and I also want to preserve my A5 hardcover too don't get me wrong there). I tend to find that softcover journals are much more affordable and sometimes more astatically nice but the hesitancy is that they tend to go through the wringer in my backpack and are begging to be put out of their misery by the time I finish writing in them. I fully intend on coming back to the review if things get better or worse with time but as of currently it's the best journal cover on Amazon.

Nice product. Needs to be broken in to stretch. Clasp is heavy and clumsy. Does not lay flat.
The product is nice and well thought out. However, the clasp is heavy and a bit annoying to use. It's nice that there is room to adjust the length of the strap on the clasp which allows for fitting more or less things into the field journal. But the clasp is heavy and adds to the weight of everything overall. Wish there was a pocket to fit in a top bound notebok. As it is, only one cahier notebook is included while there are slots for up to 3 such notebooks. For the price, there should be at least two more notebooks included. This is very expensive for a waxed canvas product.

Good
Quality of the journal is really good. Had it over a year and looks nearly new. Can be tricky to find inserts from other brands that fit so be prepared to order from lochby exclusively

Rugged good looks and versatility.
I bought this with the smaller pocket journal. It, too, goes with me everywhere, everyday. Same rugged good looks and incredible durability. Not cheap, but worth the extra. Has extra pockets for business cards, a magnifier, sticky notes, USB drive, small steel ruler, and it still doesn't bulge. The closure system is excellent - you could stuff an additional notebook inside (as I have done) and it still easily closes and still isn't bulky. There is a pen holder as well. Very, very good quality - stitching is very strong - it can withstand rough treatment and still look great after a quick wipe over. If it is LOCHBY you won't be disappointed with style, functionality and quality. I love this journal.

Perfecta!
Me encantó.
