Great Trap, but DON'T USE THE COVER!!!
Other reviewers have said that the trap is difficult to assemble, and I think I know what happened. I had to order 2 traps. When I took the first one out of the cage, an L-shaped rod with a hook at one end came out of the cage. If I had not had a second trap to use as an example, I would have had difficulty, too. When you take the trap out of the cage, you will be directed to hold it by the handle and let it fall into shape. DO NOT remove the L-shaped rod (called the trigger rod.) If it is not hooked to the trigger when you take it out of the box, do so when you get to step 8 of "Setting Up the Stray Cat Rescue Cage." Be careful not to bend it when you thread the short end of the trigger rod through the underside of the trigger pan. As long as the trigger rod is in place, this trap is very easy to put together. Only minor assembly is required. Now that the instructions are out of the way, here's my actual review: this trap works very well. It is sturdy, and it is sensitive enough to trap a small cat. When I caught the cat, I took it to the vet to be neutered. I asked the technician if he knew how to work the cage door and he said yes, because it was the same type of cage they kept on-hand for emergencies. It's nice to know that this trap is used by professionals. The rescue kit includes a burlap cover. DO NOT USE IT! Seriously, get the cover out of your home as soon as you take it out of the box. It has the most hideous chemical smell I've ever encountered. I took a chance and washed both of the covers, but even after 4 long, hot-water washings, the smell did not diminish. And (I swear this is true) my washing machine now smells like the God-awful things. The stench from the covers filled my entire first floor and gave everyone a sore throat and burning eyes. I am going to write a letter to the Havahart company telling them about this issue. In short, if you have a critter problem, this trap will work perfectly, but DON'T USE THE COVER!

Works well and stays closed when tripped
Excellent trap for catching stray or feral animals. In fact in my case it worked a little too well. I had a feral cat around my house that was not walking on one of his back legs. I bought this trap to catch him so I could take him to the vet to get it checked out. It took me about 5 days to catch the feral cat because I kept trapping other animals. 2 outdoor cats from a neighbour, a racoon and a possum! By the way, it was the first time i'd ever seen a possum and I had no idea what the hell it was. At first I thought it was a giant rat! lol. But on the 5th night I finally trapped the feral cat. He was not happy of course and is now housed in one of my spare rooms in a giant dog crate as the trip to the vet revealed he had a broken metatarsal. So he needs to stay in the cage for 30 days to allow it to heal before I can have him neutered and release him back into the wild. The trap was very easy to put together. I had no issues at all. The separator bar came in handy and worked well when I had to give him some food and water until the vet was open. The trap is pretty sturdy and the trap door is strong enough to hold when the animal is trapped.

Saved a cat's life.
I was bitten by a feral cat a few weeks ago. According to our local screwed up laws, it somehow was then my responsibility to get him to the vet for a health check/rabies shot. Since the cat bite had hospitalized me for three days, you can imagine that getting within range of this cat again filled me with something like terror. That's where this trap came in. I'd read the review about the bottom falling out and had freaked out, but I can report that did not happen. He's a BIG cat (15 lbs), and he thrashed and flailed in the trap when I lifted it, so let that attest to the fact that this trap is sturdy stuff. I put the trap in his quarantine room 2 days before I baited it so he could check it out, get used to it, ignore it. I highly recommend that technique. I also withheld food the day before, and put nice canned food as the bait, and bingo, he was caught. I did use the burlap, because he was overstimulated, and it did help calm him down, but I cut a slit in the top so the handle could still be used. It did take some squinting at the instructions and perhaps-needless flipping to find the illustration the text referred to. I will confess to being a dummy, one of those people who is barely competent at furniture assembly, and I figured out the trap instructions just fine. Just figure it'll take you 20 minutes and be patient with the instruction booklet. In short, this is a sturdy trap with all the features you want (that separator grate is handy). It let me handle Devil Cat, and saved his life, keeping both of us safe in the process.

On a visit to family, my 1 year old cat escaped over 250 miles from her home. Fearing she had become displaced my family tried everything, missing posters, leaving food and scent trails. She was spotted several times, but was impossible to catch. After researching how to find a missing cat, I noted that humane traps were highly recommended. It did take several attempts, my family's neighbours were really kind and let my Dad set the trap in their gardens. Finally after day 10 she was caught, terribly thin and dehydrated, but alive and well. Luckily she was chipped, a trip to the vet has confirmed this. So pleased to have her home, this would have been impossible without the trap. Best £60 I have ever spent.

This cat trap was delivered yesterday, one day ahead of schedule, I set it up and put it outside last night and within five minutes I had myself a very, very wild cat. Works beautifully. And now starts the process of taming and administering flea and worm meds. So glad I got this trap! Wouldn't change a thing about it.

Cordialement,
