How long do the batteries last?

No batteries like the Slinger. It is all electric, so no batteries going dead and having to wait for backlog of battery orders as with the Slinger.

can we use 8D batteries with 1.2 Volt rechargable rather than 1.5V?

Lower voltage may not throw as fast as it should.

How many balls does this hold?

This machine can hold about 11 tennis balls, and extra ball holder is available at this link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HHKTS8N?ref=myi_title_dp
