## Overview

This small, hand-painted black daruma doll from Gunma, Japan, is a traditional paper mache talisman symbolizing resilience and protection from bad luck. Its self-righting design and interactive eye-painting ritual make it a meaningful collectible that inspires determination and cultural connection.

## Description

This small daruma doll is from Gunma-prefecture in japan. Daruma dolls are hollow and round and can upright themselves after falling over. The doll is modeled after Bodhi dharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism and is regarded as a good luck talisman. Having the admirable trait of always being able to get back up after being knocked down, it is a symbol of determination and perseverance. Traditionally, the doll is crafted without the eyes painted in. The owner or recipient of the doll is supposed to paint one eye in and make a wish and paint the other eye in when the wish comes true.

It's hard to find the writing on the sides, even on the bigger one's. It should have the writing on both sides. One side says, "wisdom" and the other says "luck". Great detail on the cranes and turtle shells to.
