A joy— even/especially if you know the novel inside out!
An extraordinary feat of transformation. It makes it feel as if Cervantes must have scripted the graphic novel. I got it to read my all-time favorite novel to my then 9-year-old daughter, since I knew I couldn't read her the novel in translation, and she doesn't yet know Spanish. The book is in no way adapted for a young audience, but I think it can be rewarding for readers of all ages.

Delightful
I was skeptical that a "cartoon book" graphic novel would add anything to the classic. But it does and so much more. The line quality, sketchiness, background shapes, all bring you immediately into the story in a way that adds depth to the original. Buy the book. It's worth it.

Quite good
This is quite well done. The tone is perfect, the artwork is well done and complements the text perfectly. It will make you want to read the book itself, too! You can tell the author/artist loved Cervantes and wanted to share.

Best Graphic adaptation of the DQ saga I have ever read!
I will keep this as concise and straightforward as I can, which may almost be contradictory in nature when it comes to the overall history and story of my favorite and most inspirational fictional character ever......a person who is REALER than fiction.Full disclosure: I have been *obsessed* with Don Quixote since I was a child (now an overgrown child from the 70s, to help put things into perspective). As an ex-English Major I have of course read a bajillion translated variations of the novel (okay, four), and as a life-long Comics enthusiast, I actually own at least six different attempts at making DQ into an illustrated story, whether for kids, adults, or overgrown kids like myself. This Graphic Novel adaptation by Rob Davis blows ALL of the previous illustrated attempts out of the water (sorry, Will Eisner -- yours is pretty darn good, but your art is what makes it great... the actual story adaptation just can't compare to Davis). Heck, it concentrates (reduces) the story so well that it actually stands up to even the better (best?) prose English (and French) translations of the original Cervantes masterpiece -- nothing of the tale is lost, despite the total page count of Davis' work being a micro-fraction of any prosaic translation worth its salt.In other words, whether you are a fanatical DQ zealot like myself, or someone completely alien to this inadvertently Romantic Idealistic paragon (it breaks the brain to think that Cervantes hated medieval Romance so much, given the timeless Archetypical Hero that he accidentally spawned!), I have not found to date any other version of the tale that I find nearly as worthy of disseminating to future fellow-besotted Quixotics.I can't put it any plainer: I have already purchased multiple copies (either at local book stores, or via Amazon) of this peerless picture-book rendition for unsuspecting friends, and am merely waiting for more shipping addresses to further spread the incurable LaMachan Virus...Why don't YOU already own a copy of this, and if you do, why aren't you also already sending copies to your friends??????

A good read
I wanted to read this book (the REAL one) for some time. Then one day, while in a used book store, I sought out a copy... and quickly learned just how massive this book really is. I balked. I don't do a lot of fiction reading, and it takes me quite some time to go through a book, as I'm usually switching between 2 or 3 at a time. Then one day, I came across this illustrated version. I did a bit of a background check, and liked that people were saying it's rather faithful to the original... but a lot less work to go through. Heck, I just wanted to know the story was about - the idea of a knight chasing windmills has been in my psyche for years! So I bought the book...... and it was pretty good. I got a few chuckles out of it, found it a fun read, and thought that the illustrations were decent and suitable. Not having read the original, I can't compare. Obviously, a lot of detail must've been left out. But... as someone unfamiliar to the tale, I enjoyed this illustrated romp. And it's a nice quality hardcover too!Enjoy.
