The bulk or base is plant-derived but it has other materials in it as well. This more than likely has some sort of plastic in the make-up as well. Otherwise we would be simply rubbing castor beans all over our teeth. I've come across similar products that are 62% castor beans and 38% plastic. This product likely has a similar percentage breakdown. **Q: Are these made in USA?** A: Bamboo doesn’t grow everywhere but the company may just be using China for the bamboo handles. I have searched for a long time for actual biodegradable toothbrushes and this is the only one that doesn’t say #4 nylon bristles. When you spend your tooth brush can you actually imagine removing the bristles before composting it? I dislike that theere are so many out there claiming to be biodegradable then I see “BPA free” but then claims “plastic free” which is false because nylon is a type of plastic and just because it’s BPA free doesn’t mean you can compost it. It still needs recycled but my recycling plant doesn’t accept anything that small because it goes through the cracks/holes they won’t even take bottle caps. Nylon bristles are just wasteful. I’ve read up on this one and it looks to be made from beans 🤷‍♀️ somehow. You can’t have local bamboo though so if it means sacrificing something I’d rather not contribute to the waste. And this brand does a 10% back to help the eco system . **Q: Are the bristles more like nylon, which are so-so tooth cleaners, or boar bristles, which are excellent at cleaning teeth?** A: I haven’t used boar bristle, but these are probably more like nylon. They do clean well and are gentle on gums. **Q: What is the proper disposable method for these toothbrushes?** A: Add to compost pile if u gave bamboo toothbrushes. They should not be recycled thru recycling companies.
