Can you use nondairy product

Yes you can. The recipe book has Ice Cream for non-dairy. Also there is sherbet which is made with fruit, no dairy at all. I purchased this for my 6 years and 4 year old grandsons. My 6 year old grandson has severe allergies to anything dairy. So that was a strong consideration when I purchased it. I hope that this helps.

Our Science of Cooking: Ice Cream kit comes with a booklet of different recipes, here are a couple to get you started! Vanilla ice cream: 1/2c sugar, 1c whole milk, 1c heavy cream, 1 tbsp vanilla extract, 12c crushed ice, and 1c rock salt, with optional add-ins like chocolate sandwich cookies, berries, chocolate chips, cookie dough, etc. Chocolate ice cream: 1/2c sugar, 1c whole milk, 3/4c heavy cream, 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract, 1/4c plain cream cheese, 1/3c chocolate chips, 12c crushed ice, and 1c rock salt. Lemon sorbet: 3/4c sugar, 3/4c lemon juice (about 4 lemons), and optional add-ins like fresh or frozen fruit. Hope this helps, and happy experimenting!

What basic ingredients should I have on hand for when this kit arrives?

Milk, sugar, cream for the base of ice cream plus any other flavorings you plan to use. The only thing not in most people’s pantry would be Rock Salt or ice cream salt. This is needed to bring the freezing temperature down of the ice cubes to let you chill the ice cream properly

Can you use different types of milk?

The instruction booklet does give the directions to use milk versus cream so as to compare the type of ice creams made. There are many other recipes to try included in the booklet.
