Would it be too thick to go through the valve?** A: If you can read my review (w/ pics), I go into great detail about why this cup is horrible for smoothies. I bought this cup specifically w/ the intent to use it for smoothies because of the large gauge straw. Beware the interior straw valve, it's easily damaged (and always seems to smell). The biggest problem with this cup is that the smoothie slowly creeps up the straw and out of the top of the straw and then fills the recess on the top of the cup and can cover the vent hole, which then pulls smoothie into the lid's matrix, where it gets trapped forever and molds. It happened to 3 cups!!! I finally gave up and trashed them all. We use the Thermos Brand "Fun"tainer for our smoothies now and have no complaints. **Q: Any ideas how to get the water trapped in the lid out?** A: You can remove the small white gasket beneath the lid, allow the water to drain, and then - this parts important - wet the gasket and then use the sipping end of the straw to force it back in. Found this on Contigo’s website. **Q: How easy does this clean? Any trouble with mold developing?** A: We had the same problem after only using it for water. We thought we'd have to throw it away as our bottle brushes couldn't reach the trouble area. My wife has a water-pik flosser and I suggested we try that. She was able to pump a little soap in there and then spray both sides with it and finally got the mold out. Now if we can find a good way to dry it the problem may be solved. So as long as you have a $100 waterpik you'll be able to clean your $10 cup lol. **Q: Are there replacement straws? if not. please make them! my son is a chewer and destroys theses! a perfectly good cup in the trash is a waste.** A: I have no idea. Def worth the price. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely love this thing!! *by S***N on September 28, 2023* I originally bought one for our daughter just over 2 years ago from our local Walmart when I randomly saw it on clearance. You can see from the pic that we still have it and use it daily! It definitely shows lol BUT, it's been the only bottle that's made it alive this long around a toddler (she's 3.5 now). The pattern may be gone, the rubber edges gouged and discolored but it's her favorite! It truly is leakproof except that we live in a high altitude area and in a basement that frequently goes from hot to cold within a matter if hours - SO, the pressure and temp changes will make some of the liquid bubble up out of the straw and puddle at the top (not over the edge since the top dips inward, genuis!). That's the only spill problem we've ever had and it only happens a few times a week which is totally fine with us compared to using one that leaks when it tips over. I decided to get a second one and get rid of her other water bottles since those claim to be spill proof but aren't. Her older one is still in perfect working condition so we don't even need to toss it! As far as cleaning, make sure you clean it thoroughly and you'll have no mold issues. We take one of those little bristle brushes (like for cleaning baby bottles but much, much smaller) and clean under all the rubber seals and bits. Then put it through the dishwasher and it's all good! I 110% recommend this! Some of the patterns are pricey, no clue why, but this one is definitely worth the buy.
