The Club: A Novel

Lots of characters to keep up with. Might help to make a few notes of who each person is. Other than that, great story and wouldn’t be surprised if this is what goes down with celebrities. No jaw dropping twists but it was a good ride.

I couldn’t put this down. Had to finish it within 24 hours. Great characters, great premise. Loved every second of this.

I kept trying to read this book. I would start it, read a couple of paragraphs and get bored. I finally powered through enough to engage but it did continually lose my interest. At first it seemed like there were too many characters to keep track of. I actually made a cheat sheet so I could go to it and remember what part they played in the narrative. In the end I found the premise too ridiculous. The celebrities too obnoxious and the ending too annoying. It seems this author REALLY hates celebrities. It was a quick read but nothing remarkable about it. I will give it 3 stars because the mystery was decent but the rest was just way too over the top for me.

With pop culture what is in this country -I don’t think many are completely immune. Whether you flip through old celebrity magazines while waiting for your appointment or you buy the “the paper” every week (as my Nana did) or if one store grandpas you4 attention scrolling on your media devices.This novel is like being behind the curtain, seeing and hearing how the strange demands, bad behaviors and wondering how they still get away with it. People still stream their shows, attend their movies and hold celebrities on Demi-God pedestals .Delectable read with a few surprises inside!

The balanced back and forth of the ensemble cast is masterfully written. Not sure what to expect, I was blown away by the twists and turns. I highly recommend this incredibly satisfying book!!

This was just an okay read. Complicated plot making it difficult to follow. Characters were not particularly endearing and there seemed to be to many to keep track of.

Soap opera style storytelling pulls together characters who all happen to be interrelated and are perversely manipulated by a sinister man who is never really fleshed out in this novel. It kept me reading and sometimes rereading to try to understand all the dashes and phrases shoved into already-long sentences. Maybe this book was translated from another language? Or they accidentally published the non-edited version? I had hoped for a satisfying ending, but the author pretty much just kills everybody off. So far my least favorite book of 2023.

I did enjoy reading this. I just wasn’t in love with it. In the beginning I had some trouble remembering who the characters were. Had to use xray a lot. I think that was because several of the characters were so much alike. About half way through I got into a groove and started enjoying it more. It did have a little of the feel of Big Little Lies with its structure, but nowhere as good as that. I can see it being a good movie though. A good script to start with and visually it would be very interesting to see the setting and cast picks.

Si es aficionado de la cultura pop y estrellas de la música y cine, posiblemente es para ti. Estrellas comportiendo como criminales y otros tratando a ellos malísimamente. El concepto del club es interesante, pero no es ningún carácter bueno en ese libro! No era para mi!

The dullest type of chick lit. Irritating style with lots of lists & repetition. Caricatured protagonists. Would not recommend it.

This book starts with deaths of people unknown. Jumping back and forwards we start to piece together lots of lives of the rich and famous and those behind the scenes keeping their lives just so. I found this book hard to really get into but was interested enough to keep going. Having all the characters as flawed is realistic but it’s hard to root for any of them which made the story hard to lose yourself in.

Das fragt man sich bei jedem Kapitel aufs Neue. Viele Protagonisten erschweren es dem Leser am Ball zu bleiben.Ich werde den im Grunde spannenden Roman daher noch einmal lesen.

Not as enthralling as most thriller’s but still very well written.
