A Treat for German-Americans.
For those of you of German extraction who are interested in period music with some lyrics in the Mother Tongue, this is a good collection just for listening. The musical era, it seems to me, which it portrays is that of the Weimar Republik. Being a "latter-day" student of the language - since I was born at the beginning of the Third Reich and its war against the world - my parents and grandparents did not teach me to bilingual: to be fluent in both German & English. Das ist das Leben, eh?!*..... I do own it, i.e. the CD Box set, and I use it to help maintain my auditory fluency in the language.

Impeccable taste, incredible enjoyment
Per usual, Max Raabe & his Palast Orchster deliver nothing but the best and finest in entertainment. Many of the arrangements are taken directly from the Comecian Harmonists or 20 and 30 movies, as far as my ear can tell. Raabe's voice has an impressive range in sound and character and he uses it to enhance the mood of each song. While some may think the love songs are overly sentimental or even silly, Raabe does not shy away to embrace that sort of human emotion and enhances it with slight amusement, seriousness and sheer beauty.
