Dishes: 623 Colorful, Wonderful Dinner Plates

This book has some really beautiful pieces in it, and great information! But I wish there was more to it. I kind of feel like this could've gone one of two ways - with more pictures or with more information. But I found myself wanting more of both.It may be because I'm already a fine china enthusiast, but I found the stories of people collecting and odd pieces to be particularly interesting -- but I was less interested in the top 100 most popular patterns from Replacements, given that I've browsed that selection countless times. I would've liked to see more stories and more terms, and more patterns that I haven't seen - or more specific interpretations of motifs and how that evolved. And maybe some more information about the actual manufacture of china and how that evolved. It's touched on a little bit, but only in passing.It's a good coffee table book, but not really a reference. I enjoyed looking through it for sure, but it feels incomplete to me.

Handy, quick reference but not as detailed as I hoped.

This pocketbook-size book is just a smaller version of Riegler's book Dish: 813 Colorful, Wonderful Dinner Plates. Had I been sure of this, I would not have purchased it since I have the larger, more in-depth book. The photographs are amazing, however, and this is still a fun little book to have lying around.

Small, well formatted book with clear photos of pretty plates! I like the way the book is organized, and it really is eye candy! A little treasure!

There are lots of pretty pictures, but I was hoping for something that would teach me more about dishes, their history, their makers, their value, etc. I didn't learn anything from this book- there isn't much text at all. What little text there is, is not particularly useful, either, just statements like "Humans love animals so it should come as no surprise that animals form a popular dinnerware motif." Plus it is a very tiny, palm sized book, almost distractingly small. I was so excited to get this book, since I love plates so much, but unfortunately it was a disappointment.

Very good reference book for dinner ware designs

If you love dishes, china, plates, whatever you call them, whether on your table, a hutch or on the wall, this is a book to savor!
