Typography Workbook: A Real-World Guide to Using Type in Graphic Design

Mislabeled, but a great book nonetheless.
I bought this book to feed my insatiable appetite for information on typography. I have recently developed a strong interest in the subject, and figured that this purchase would be a good next step.Well, it fit the bill in the sense that it introduced me to the world of graphic design. Fascinating stuff; the topic is covered thoroughly, and with eye catching photos and illustrations. I plan to continue studying this topic once I have a better knowledge of typography. This leads me to my one small complaint.Concerning the subject of typography, topics such as fonts, kearning, leading, etc are given just a few pages at the beginning of the book. Also, this is NOT an "exercise " book, meaning there are no exercises. As I said earlier, a great book for an introduction to graphic design, but maybe not if you're looking for something on typography itself.

Typography Workbook
I purchased this book to supplement my current Typography class textbook, as I really enjoy all of Timothy Samara's design books, and now have all of them. It deals more with the DESIGNING of type and layout on the page vs. my textbook. It is beautifully done, a feast for the eye on every page, with detailed information on every topic in typography. My only problem is that the text copy is very small, so have to read more slowly, it is like an 8pt...if I gave any suggestion to enlarge the text more.

One of a Kind Typography & Design International Workbook
Typography Workbook, Timothy Samara, moves graphic design well into international graphic designers area. I am new to graphic design with direct marketing approach for career. Typography book shows how cultures think about design through art forms. Opening up a niche in direct marketing, I found Timothy Samara's book enlightening. The book is one of a kind in typography. Mr. Samara's approach to gather as many ideas as he could find to stimulate all graphic designers in the fast moving world of marketing is unique. Looking through numerous pages I am exhilarated and inspired to get started in my new graphic design career.

Amazing book on type! Extremely in-depth.
Extremely well written book, with easy to understand illustrations of all the concepts, plus tons of examples, this may be one of the best books on the market on typography. The details are plenty and explained properly, but without making it hard to read. It's also beautifully laid out, with examples of really good typography in the chapter titles and body text.If you want a book for typography, this is the one, beginners and die-hards together.

Good visual reference
I expected more of this book in terms of learning how to do things. However, it is a very visual book that shows you lots of examples (which is good for having visual references) but it doesn't explain why the cases they show are better than others or why they are considered "beautiful".

Great reference for aspiring type nerds!
So dense, but so incredibly helpful and nerdy, for those wanting an intro, or advanced look at type. Ironically, the 6pt and 7pt is a bit excessive at times for my aging eyes, but it's such an incredible wealth of information, I kinda don't care.

amazing!
This is one of the prettiest books I own. It was also the most helpful book I purchased on typography and design. The examples and the book itself are gorgeous and the text explanations are thorough and easy to understand. Reading this book felt like taking an intro to typography course. This is as good as I could have expected it to be.

Useless book!
Absolutely useless book! I wish I looked more carefully and didn't waste my money. This book is very difficult to read—because of a very small font and because of the way the author wrote it (simple things written with almost a scientific language). There is almost nothing valuable in it, terrible examples (just imagine, this book was written more then 10 years ago, all there examples are completely outdated). I really struggled with this book. I wish I never bought it. Please think twice before you purchase it, there are a lot of new books of modern authors, you better try them, this one is no classic and is not worth buying.

NOT a 'Workbook', Though a Great Book from a great Author
Excellent book; however, this is by no means a "workbook", in my opinion. It is not filled with exercises to help you work through typographic problems. It does, however, do a great job at guiding the reader through a journey of learning to work with type through countless excellent examples. Another great publication from Timothy Samara.

Interesting choice
The book is quite interesting, for anybody who likes to read about fonts. Good for absolute begginers but don't expect it to be from A to Z guide. The comment: 'Provides an at-a-glance reference guide for graphic designers on every aspect of typography' is very true.It gives short description with a lot of examples. I like it.

Very nice
I just wanted to get my five stars in here.It looks and feels like a good book you would read out of enjoyment for a subject or hobbie such as Fishing, Sking, Hiking, Boxing or Judo etc when not doing the hobbie but also gives information like a College or University textbook would.

Beginner
Book is great for beginners or for font lovers.Texts and illustrations provide useful information and make it all finally clear. A must-have in young Graphic Designer's bookshelf.
