Revolutionary Girl Utena Complete Deluxe Box Set Paperback – April 11, 2017

The manga version of Revolutionary Girl Utena tells a really powerful, mystical, and the utmost otherworldly story. It gives me a sense of optimism and at times, thorniness, as if something has not resolved––even though the Chiho Saito’s manga gives the ending more thoroughness than the anime. Again, that is simply my opinion.*Spoilers*In terms of characterization, the manga version of Touga Kiryuu is the utmost compelling and interesting. Unlike the anime, Touga is truly in love with Utena and is the only one besides Himemiya to remember her after Utena sacrifices her entire existence.I actually relate to him a great deal, about his worldview and why he wants this power to revolutionize the world.“Tenjou, have you ever felt…that you were an outsider? That this place we look down upon…It’s like another world, far from the real one? Our true world exists someplace else. We all want to get that world back…So we can finally return to our deepest selves. This world we inhabit…It’s like an egg…A small world encased in a hard shell. The chick will die, unborn, it it doesn’t break through that shell. It will die, without ever knowing that it’s a bird! If we don’t break the world’s shell…we’ll die without being born…without knowing we can fly! And I want to fly. That is why I will revolutionize the world…so that I can be myself…!”To feel so suffocated in this world, being external to this world that seems so real, I guess I can really understand him. I, too, if possible, desire this power. In fact, it’s the only thing worth starting: the shattering of this world, to put an end to all the contradictions and human depravity. Despite how ridiculous this sounds, it is the power to play god even obeying World’s End to do that.

Before anything else, I have to mention it was packed rather haphazardly with the rest of my Amazon order in a huge box with very little protective packaging. It arrived undamaged for me, but I know other reviews mention damage in transit, so be aware that could happen.As a fan of the movie and anime, I think this is an excellent find. The volumes are beautifully bound with plenty of art and a small, folded poster included. The story isn't just like the anime, and it's interesting to see what got changed in adaptation. I haven't finished it, but I look forward to doing so.

As a long- time Utena fan who had bought the manga volumes via Viz in the early 00's but had never managed to complete the set, I mostly bought these just to finish the story. What I got was much more. The quality of these books and the paper used are fantastic. The color pictures are lovely, the included poster was equally great, and I swear the books are rose scented. I may be imagining that last part but if I'm not it is genius marketing. If you were ever a fan of Utena, this is a "must-own" set. I'm using them to pass the series on to the next generation.

This is not so much a review about the story, but the presentation of this box set. I have always wanted to track down the volumes of the Utena manga, but I knew it would be an expensive endeavor so I never did. Here, you get 2 full volumes in hardcover (not paperback like in the description) of the entire manga series. The books are beautiful and sturdy and display nicely in the box. I enjoyed Utena when I was younger and as an adult, I don't have the space for multiple books of manga anymore. This is PERFECT, looks nice displayed and doesn't take up a ton of space. . I hope publishers will take note and resurrect other series like this.

Absolutely beautiful! I started watching the anime a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with Utena. I just had to get the manga as well and I'm so glad I did. The art is beautiful the box is beautiful the book covers are beautiful. Just everything about this is beautiful! If you love Utena you need to get this!

The box and books are gorgeous! I loved this manga when i was younger and I bought this box set for my daughters birthday. This story does have some innapropriate themes and images so i would not recommend this to anyone under 14. Its a great read though and looks awesome on the shelf!

I’m absolutely in LOVE with this box set. It’s so gorgeous - the glossy prints in the beginning of each book are beautiful. The paper is a great weight through the whole book too - not too thin like in most omnibus manga editions! And the hard covers are stunning! I would 100% recommend this to all collectors.My only disappointment is that the box was damaged (pictured). I didn’t notice until I had peeled the shrink wrap off, but it was clearly damaged either in transit or in the warehouse.

I’m so glad I bought this! I’ve only watched the anime and movie until yesterday (when I got my package). I read through both books in a couple of hours-I couldn’t put them down! It was really interesting what was different from the anime. Both are great! If you’re thinking about getting it, just do it, it’s so nice!
